New Web site helps FirstSearch users become better searchers

FirstSearch Bibliographic Instruction Web site. [screen capture]Libraries that offer bibliographic instruction programs to their users can now incorporate information about the OCLC FirstSearch service from the new FirstSearch Bibliographic Instruction Web site. The materials on the site are contributed by libraries and OCLC to help library users become more skilled searchers.

The new site provides an easy way to integrate information about FirstSearch into current library programs, a venue to share instructional resources among libraries and a way to save staff time in preparing bibliographic instruction programs.

The site includes:

  • sample searches
  • instructional materials (FirstSearch documentation, handouts and more)
  • templates to reflect how FirstSearch is used at individual institutions
  • a guided tour of FirstSearch
  • links to OCLC-affiliated U.S. regional network Web sites for information on regional instructional sessions
  • links to related sites (OCLC and library Web pages of use in bibliographic instruction programs)

Information on submitting materials for use on the FirstSearch Bibliographic Instruction Web site is available under "Related Sites."
