Bibliothèque nationale du Québec joins OCLC

The Bibliothèque nationale du Québec (BNQ) has become an OCLC member and will contribute its cataloging to WorldCat. The BNQ will access WorldCat via its own Z39.50 client and will contribute holdings and original records via batchloading.

"This is extremely good news for Quebec, the French Canadian community and French users from other countries," said Daniel Boivin, director of OCLC Canada. "I believe that a large number of the BNQ records will be original, even though WorldCat already contains more than 2 million French records. This will definitely increase the coverage of French Canadian literature in WorldCat. Our partnership will also allow the BNQ to promote its unique collection more efficiently to all the other countries that have partnered with OCLC."

The Bibliothèque nationale du Québec (OCLC symbol: B2Q) was founded in 1967 to gather, disseminate and preserve Quebec’s documentary inheritance and all related documents of cultural interest, as well as documents related to Quebec that are published outside of the province. More information about the BNQ is available on the BNQ Web site.
