The VISION Project: Shared Records for Visual Resources

The VISION project is a collaboration of the Visual Resources Association (VRA), the Getty Information Institute, and the Research Libraries Group. It aims to create standard, online descriptions of slides and photographs of works of art.

The project is described at the VRA Web site, including rosters of working groups and contributors and its value in conjunction with the REACH project. Over the past year, RLG has worked on the infrastructure and interface while VISION participants completed their data entry.

Two important facets of this project should be noted:

Participants created VISION records using a Web-based entry form especially designed for the project. VISION and REACH project participants, and external advisors, began evaluating their records in the final quarter of 1998, using the interface designed for The AMICO Library.
