Update! Eureka database service will transition to OCLC FirstSearch.
OCLC will integrate twelve databases that currently reside on the RLG Eureka service with OCLC’s FirstSearch service, after which the Eureka database service will be discontinued.
The release for customer access to the databases on FirstSearch is targeted for late 2007. OCLC will provide a window of time during which the databases will be available on both Eureka and FirstSearch, so that users can become familiar with the FirstSearch interface before the Eureka interface is discontinued. For updates, see RLG transition information for Reference.
Eureka® is a Web-based search interface for both novice and experienced users—an easy choice for campuswide access by students and faculty, as well as for librarians. Available every day, virtually all day, Eureka lets you pinpoint a particular item or cast a broad net, refining searches as you go. Eureka also lets you explore through serendipity, browsing through the author, title, journal, or subject lists for all the records in a database.
OpenURL. Eureka's OpenURL support turns RLG's millions of records for articles, books, and other materials into direct links to your own resources—at no additional cost. These can be full-text article collections, your catalog of local holdings, an interlibrary loan request mechanism, online booksellers, and more.
Ask a Librarian. Eureka offers Ask a Librarian, a feature that allows users to connect remotely to your library's electronic reference desk—at no additional cost. If you offer remote reference assistance, you'll want to add this feature to your Eureka databases.
Direct export to bibliographic software. Eureka offers fast and easy direct export of your records into the most popular bibliographic management software—RefWorks, EndNote, ProCite, and Reference Manager.
Metasearching works seamlessly with Eureka. Once you've received a metasearch result, you can automatically link from a record in the results list to the corresponding record in the Eureka interface—there's no need for a separate log-on and no need to retype your searches.
Original scripts. Using Eureka you can work with bibliographic descriptions in original Arabic, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean scripts.
