Essential Facts

ZPORTAL provides libraries and information centers with a single (federated) search environment that simultaneously searches across their choice of approved, quality information resources, and retrieves the hits into a single results set – all with the ease of an everyday internet search engine.

To enable the widest possible choice of resources, ZPORTAL is supported by a set of information integration tools from OCLC PICA, which enable all of the following to be integrated for the benefit of the user:

      • library catalogues
      • commercial databases
      • websites and search engines
      • electronic journals

Library professionals can package these important resources by subject, location or category and then present these pre-selected groups of resources to different user communities.  Users can personalize their searching by choosing from either a novice or an expert search environment, and they have the option to de-duplicate, sort and save their work.

Full-text is delivered direct to the user wherever it is available.  ZPORTAL also works seamlessly with OL2, OCLC PICA’s Open Linking technology, and VDX, OCLC PICA’s resource sharing and document delivery solution, offering more delivery choices to the user.
