CILLA

Co-operative of Indic Language Library Authorities

The Co-operative of Indic Language Library Authorities (CILLA) is a subscription service which assists libraries to meet the needs of their Indic Communities by providing an acquisitions and cataloguing service for Indic Language Materials.

The Languages covered are Bengali from Bangladesh and India, Gujarati, Hindi, Panjabi, Tamil from India & Sri Lanka and Urdu from India and Pakistan.

The service is offered on an annual subscription basis with book lists being produced on a quarterly basis in April, July, October and January, with the final list including an annual Subscription.

Booklists

The booklists are used at quarterly book selection meetings which are held in London, Birmingham, Preston and Glasgow for selection purposes. The book selection meetings are open only to CILLA member libraries. The cataloguing records are also available on an annual subscription. The records are distributed on a quarterly basis to coincide with the booklists. Records can be supplied in either UKMARC or MARC21. The records will also be available on the OCLC WorldCat database.

Future Development

As OCLC PICA develops the new platform for the CILLA database, on OCLC PICA’s CBS system, the ability to display cataloguing records in the vernacular script will be made available, thus increasing access to these materials for library users.

Approximate numbers of records catalogued each year:

Bengali 500
Gujarati 550
Hindi 350
Panjabi 450
Tamil 500
Urdu 550
