WorldCat List Widget for your blog or website
We now have a WorldCat list widget available - you can see it in action here on the right hand side of the WorldCat Blog. You can customize the widget to display items on your public WorldCat list - just copy the HTML code in to your website and include the 'List ID' for your list.
Tips for using the list widget:
+ Make sure the privacy setting for your list is set to 'Public' ('Private' lists will not display in the widget). You can check your privacy settings in the 'Settings' area when logged in to WorldCat.org and viewing a list - the link is on the top left, just under your avatar picture (see image below).
+ This List ID is the 5 digit number at the end of the URL string when you are viewing your list.
+ WorldCat Local users can customize the list widget to their domain - see the instructions in the 'Notes' section at the bottom of the widget page.
+ First time working with a WorldCat Affiliate tool? you can log in with your standard WorldCat username and password. You may be prompted for some additional affiliate information.

I am getting an error that says the list is not public, but it is. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Adam,
I certainly see the problem here - I am unable to reproduce it at this time but I do see that your list is Public. We're investigating the issue and will let you what we uncover.
Thanks,
Laura

With Adam's help, we uncovered a bug in our list widget code. If your user profile is configured as 'Private', the widget is not displaying a 'Public' list as it should. We will fix this issue as soon as possible (mid May). Until then, if you change your profile to 'Public' view status (via the check box in ‘Edit Settings’ on your user profile) – your list will properly display in your widget.
We apologize for any inconvenience this issue causes in the meantime.

I love the list widget idea, but this feels quite clunky. Not enough characters of the list name are displayed for me to see what it's really about. And why the horizontal scrolling? The format icons are wasted real estate -- I'd rather have a vertical scroll of more items with no/smaller icons.

Thanks for your feedback Lee-Anne. We're in the early stages of the WorldCat "widget library" creation and plan to evolve our library with more size/ design options for each of the current widgets - as well as offer additional widgets. We will certainly keep your feedback in mind through this process.

While I agree about the widget being a little cumbersome, I guess we should give the Worldcat devs sometime to perfect it. Hardly any software is perfect at the time of its birth; rather, it is made perfect through tests and tweaks. Anyways, I cannot imagine Worldcat without the widget: it is really very useful. Thanks for making it available ;-)
