The strategic management of large engineering projects : shaping institutions, risks, and governance by Roger Miller( )

25 editions published between 2000 and 2001 in English and held by 1,929 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The authors studied sixty large engineering projects (LEPs), projects as various as a hydro dam in Venezuela, offshore oil platforms in Norway, a subway in Turkey, and the Boston Harbor cleanup. What they found during their research will allow managers to understand and evaluate the relationships between institutions and strategy, risk management, and corporate governance in general
Innovation reinvented : six games that drive growth by Roger Miller( )

11 editions published between 2000 and 2017 in English and held by 555 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Innovation is essential for businesses to survive in the long run, but there are no one-size-fits-all strategies for innovating successfully. A firm's specific business environment will determine what works and what does not work. Based on a global survey of innovative firms and on 50 in-depth case studies, Innovation Reinvented identifies six patterns or 'games' of innovation, each commanding best-of-class strategies and best practices. Examining recognized innovative companies - from Apple and Intel in the technology area to Proctor & Gamble and Clorox in mature markets - this book dispels the notion of innovation as a 'one-size fits all' or necessarily radical process. As Roger Miller and Marcel Côté demonstrate, the vast majority of innovations result from improvements in product features or business processes. Innovation Reinvented provides a unique framework for entrepreneurs and senior executives to identify the game(s) in which a business is involved, and which approaches are best-suited to win by competing on innovation."--Publisher's website

Governance regimes for large complex projects by Roger Miller( Book )

1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Organizations can only successfully realize mega-projects when they have in place a governance regime that is capable of adapting to specific projects, dealing with emergent complexity, and changing as the project development process unfolds. This article outlines a foundation for developing mega-project governance framework. In doing so, it re-examines an early 21st century study of 60 large capital projects; it also reviews the literature on institutional, corporate, and project governance and studies two European mega-projects (one involving the British Private Finance Initiative, the other, a Norwegian effort to develop a project approval process). It opens by identifying the eight themes that most affect the front-end of mega-projects and then by exploring the life-cycle relationship between projects, institutional frameworks, and contextual environments. It also compares the idealized role of mega-project governing bodies against empirical observations, discusses the paradoxes in the idealized role, and outlines the challenges of designing governance regimes. It subsequently references the European cases when examining institutional learning, political will, and knowledge-gathering as components in developing a mega-project governance framework
