On the night of November 14, 1959, in Holcomb, Kansas, a farmhouse is broken into by Perry Smith and Dick Hickock. With a 'no witness' policy, they murder the entire family. Truman Capote, a popular writer for The New Yorker, learns about the horrific and senseless murder. Inspired by the story material, Capote and his partner, Harper Lee, travel to Holcomb to do research for an article. As Capote digs deeper into the story, he decides to expand the project into what would be his greatest work, 'In Cold Blood.' He arranges extensive interviews with Smith and Hickock, especially with Smith, a man with a troubled history. As he works on his book, Capote feels some compassion for Smith and helps the duo get a new lawyer. However, that feeling deeply conflicts with his need to finished his book which only an execution can provide. That conflict and the mixed motives for both interviewer and subject make for a troubling experience that would produce an literary account that would redefine modern non-fiction

Traffic by Steven Soderbergh( Visual )

3 editions published between 2002 and 2007 in English and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Traffic is a mural of a war being fought and lost. In a culture devoted to instant gratification and the quick fix, it poses unanswerable questions about greed, corruption, economic inequity, pleasure, self-medication, dependency, and addiction. The stories of a well-meaning politician with a wayward daughter, a rich suburban homemaker who sees her comfortable life hijacked by two earnest DEA agents, and a conscientious and honorable Mexican police officer illustrate the difficulties of waging this war against people who are essentially members of the family. How do you combat human frailty, human nature, and the basic human desire to take the edge off? Are we all not just doomed to repeat our mistakes, but--perversely--willing?

Prison ramen : recipes and stories from behind bars by Clifton Collins( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 178 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Last year, the Japanese company that created instant ramen sold 46 billion packs and cups of pre-flavored dried noodles. It is a ubiquitous food, especially beloved by anyone looking for a cheap, tasty bite-including, it turns out, prisoners, who buy instant ramen at the commissary and use it as the building block for all sorts of meals that foster bonds of loyalty and friendship. Now Prison Ramen takes readers behind bars, with 65 ramen recipes combined with stories of prison life from the inmates who devised them, including celebrities like Slash from Guns n' Roses and the actor Shia LaBeouf. Think of this as a cookbook of ramen hacks. Here's Ramen Goulash. Onion Tortilla Ramen Soup. The Jailhouse Hole Burrito. Orange Porkies-chili ramen + white rice + 1/2 bag of port skins + orange-flavored punch. Ramen Nuggets. Slash's J-Walking Ramen, and the incredible Koinonia Ramen spread, packed with ramen, jalapenos, beef jerky, and more that "cooks" in an industrial plastic garbage bag and will feed 15 to 20. The coauthors are childhood friends-one an ex-con, now free and living in Mexico, and the other a highly successful Hollywood character actor who has enlisted friends and celebrities to contribute their recipes and stories. Forget the typical recipe headnote about precious, organic ingredients-these stories are the real deal, each a first-person, firsthand look inside prison life, a scared-straight reality complementing the offbeat recipes"--
