Birational geometry, rational curves, and arithmetic by Fedor A Bogomolov( )

12 editions published between 2013 and 2015 in English and held by 436 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book features recent developments in a rapidly growing area at the interface of higher-dimensional birational geometry and arithmetic geometry.  It focuses on the geometry of spaces of rational curves, with an emphasis on applications to arithmetic questions.  Classically, arithmetic is the study of rational or integral solutions of diophantine equations and geometry is the study of lines and conics. From the modern standpoint, arithmetic is the study of rational and integral points on algebraic varieties over nonclosed fields. A major insight of the 20th century was that arithmetic properties of an algebraic variety are tightly linked to the geometry of rational curves on the variety and how they vary in families. This collection of solicited survey and research papers is intended to serve as an introduction for graduate students and researchers interested in entering the field, and as a source of reference for experts working on related problems. Topics that will be addressed include: birational properties such as rationality, unirationality, and rational connectedness, existence of rational curves in prescribed homology classes, cones of rational curves on rationally connected and Calabi-Yau varieties, as well as related questions within the framework of the Minimal Model Program
Arithmetic of higher-dimensional algebraic varieties by Bjorn Poonen( Book )

12 editions published between 2003 and 2004 in English and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of the great successes of twentieth century mathematics has been the remarkable qualitative understanding of rational and integral points on curves, gleaned in part through the theorems of Mordell, Weil, Siegel, and Faltings. It has become clear that the study of rational and integral points has deep connections to other branches of mathematics: complex algebraic geometry, Galois and étale cohomology, transcendence theory and diophantine approximation, harmonic analysis, automorphic forms, and analytic number theory. This text, which focuses on higher-dimensional varieties, provides precisely such an interdisciplinary view of the subject. It is a digest of research and survey papers by leading specialists; the book documents current knowledge in higher-dimensional arithmetic and gives indications for future research. It will be valuable not only to practitioners in the field, but to a wide audience of mathematicians and graduate students with an interest in arithmetic geometry. Rational points on algebraic varieties by Emmanuel Peyre( Book )

11 editions published between 2001 and 2002 in English and Undetermined and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book is devoted to the study of rational and integral points on higher-dimensional algebraic varieties. It contains carefully selected research papers addressing the arithmetic geometry of varieties which are not of general type, with an emphasis on how rational points are distributed with respect to the classical, Zariski and adelic topologies. The present volume gives a glimpse of the state of the art of this rapidly expanding domain in arithmetic geometry. The techniques involve explicit geometric constructions, ideas from the minimal model program in algebraic geometry as well as analytic number theory and harmonic analysis on adelic groups."--Jacket
Algebra, geometry, and physics in the 21st century : Kontsevich festschrift by Denis Auroux( )

15 editions published in 2017 in English and German and held by 267 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is a tribute to Maxim Kontsevich, one of the most original and influential mathematicians of our time. Maxim's vision has inspired major developments in many areas of mathematics, ranging all the way from probability theory to motives over finite fields, and has brought forth a paradigm shift at the interface of modern geometry and mathematical physics. Many of his papers have opened completely new directions of research and led to the solutions of many classical problems. This book collects papers by leading experts currently engaged in research on topics close to Maxim's heart. Contributors: S. Donaldson A. Goncharov D. Kaledin M. Kapranov A. Kapustin L. Katzarkov A. Geometry over nonclosed fields by Geometry over nonclosed fields( )

11 editions published between 2017 and 2018 in English and German and held by 219 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Based on the Simons Symposia held in 2015, the proceedings in this volume focus on rational curves on higher-dimensional algebraic varieties and applications of the theory of curves to arithmetic problems. There has been significant progress in this field with major new results, which have given new impetus to the study of rational curves and spaces of rational curves on K3 surfaces and their higher-dimensional generalizations. One main recent insight the book covers is the idea that the geometry of rational curves is tightly coupled to properties of derived categories of sheaves on K3 surfaces. The implementation of this idea led to proofs of long-standing conjectures concerning birational properties of holomorphic symplectic varieties, which in turn should yield new theorems in arithmetic. This proceedings volume covers these new insights in detail
Analytic number theory : a tribute to Gauss and Dirichlet by Gauss-Dirichlet Conference( Book )

8 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 151 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Rational points, rational curves, and entire holomorphic curves on projective varieties : CRM short thematic program, June 3-28, 2013, Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, Université de Montréal, Québec, Canada by Carlo Gasbarri( )

12 editions published between 2012 and 2015 in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The program was dedicated to the study of subtle interconnections between geometric and arithmetic properties of higher-dimensional algebraic varieties. The main areas of the program were, among others, proving density of rational points in Zariski or analytic topology on special varieties, understanding global geometric properties of rationally connected varieties, as well as connections between geometry and algebraic dynamics exploring new geometric techniques in diophantine approximation."--Page 4 de la couverture
