Brain protection in cardiac surgery by Robert S Bonser( )

21 editions published between 2010 and 2011 in English and German and held by 410 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Brain injury remains one of the most dreaded complications of cardiac surgery. The range of injury is broad; while a stroke may be easily defined and diagnosed, more subtle injuries most definitely occur. There remains debate as to how these are diagnosed and there is a lack of standard definitions allowing inter-study comparison. If we are to have confidence in strategies that may reduce brain injury, we need to have confidence in the end-points used to define that injury. We need to better understand the phenomena associated with neuropsychometric testing; we need to fully elucidate the relationship between structural brain injury, embolism counting, and surrogate biomarkers; and we need an improved understanding of the clinical significance of abnormalities detected on postoperative magnetic resonance imaging. Brain Protection in Cardiac Surgery presents a detailed background of studies of neurological morbidity and neuroprotection from a range of experts in the field of neuroprotection, providing a detailed reference for clinicians in the field. The Editors have detailed connections between the different strands of injury <U+0080>́<U+0094> be it the pathology, the imaging, the clinical and cognitive examination, potential biomarkers <U+0080>́<U+0094> and have then provided summary reports of treatment strategies that may reduce such injury. As we look to the future, the design of studies attempting to reduce such injury becomes increasingly important and this book provides the fundamental background information to fuel interest, initiate novel prevention and therapeutic strategies, and inform the investigator how to develop and design their research study
Mitral valve surgery by Robert S Bonser( )

18 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in English and Chinese and held by 390 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An appreciation of atrioventricular valve surgical anatomy reveals that they are much more than simple valves, opening and closing in response to pressure changes. The structural interrelationship of the valves of the heart and the dynamic mechanisms involved in their function are fundamental in optimizing valve performance, and are dependent upon an intricate multifaceted central cardiac complex. Mitral Valve Surgery presents a detailed background of the mitral valve, its pathology, evaluation, repair and replacement from a range of experts in the field, providing a detailed reference for clinicians in cardiology, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, and related fields. The Editors have designed the book to be a comprehensive and systematic review including current practical information and guidance. As we look to the future, mitral valve surgery will continue to evolve and attempting to maximize patient outcome such injury will become increasingly important. This book provides the fundamental background information to fuel interest, initiate novel prevention, refine surgical and therapeutic strategies, and inform the investigator how to develop and design their research study
Controversies in aortic dissection and aneurysmal disease by Robert S Bonser( )

9 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 291 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book reviews the surgical management of patients with aortic disease, revealing many options open to cardiovascular specialists in this often controversial area of management. It reviews each controversy and provides clinical information for cardiac surgery, and discusses the spectrum of disorders and their management. With the knowledge base in this discipline changing rapidly, Controversies in Aortic Dissection and Aneurysmal Disease meets an important requirement to consolidate the wide-ranging information on which clinicians must base their practice. It is directed towards surgeons, physicians, and healthcare workers involved in the care of patients requiring cardiac, cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery. This book will be an essential resource for these professionals looking to accelerate the translation of basic research findings into clinical study and practice
Cardiac surgery : operations on the heart and great vessels in adults and children( )

17 editions published between 2016 and 2018 in English and German and held by 227 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This text describes and illustrates with some 700 detailed anatomic and surgical drawings the whole spectrum of surgical procedures employed to treat acquired and congenital diseases of the heart and great vessels in adults and children. A rather traditional chapter on history of cardiac surgery precedes chapters dedicated to quality improvement, followed by ICU management in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, and techniques of extracorporeal circulation in both age groups. Further special topics are cardiovascular tissue engineering, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, endovascular treatment of aortic diseases, and cardiac assist devices, including total artificial heart. Written by 71 internationally recognized experts from 40 cardiac units in Central Europe and North America, this book will be invaluable not only for both novice and experienced surgeons, but also for all physicians, nurses, and technicians caring for patients with heart disease of any type, at any age
Atherosclerosis pathogenesis and microvascular dysfunction by A Haverich( )

8 editions published between 2019 and 2020 in English and held by 195 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book provides new perspectives on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Chapters cover atherosclerosis risk factors, the effect of growth and aging on vascular architecture, and the crucial role the microvasculature plays in atherosclerosis development. Microvascular dysfunction would explain why the well-known risk factors actually put individuals at higher risk. This pathomechanism would also hold true not only for obstructive atheroma formation but also for aneurysmal dilatation as well as for aortic and peripheral artery dissection. When seen through this lens, novel preventive and therapeutic opportunities can be envisioned. Atherosclerosis Pathogenesis and Microvascular Dysfunction proposes a single unifying mechanism of atherosclerosis development and describes potential preventative and therapeutic avenues based on this concept. It therefore represents a timely and valuable resource for internal medicine, cardiology, angiology cardiovascular surgeons, pathology clinicians, researchers, trainees, and students
Stem cell transplantation and tissue engineering by A Haverich( Book )

7 editions published between 2001 and 2002 in English and held by 172 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As dogmas in stem cell research are losing their impact and recent findings regarding the use and cultivation of stem cells and tissue transplantation have opened up new therapeutic avenues, this Ernst Schering Research Foundation Workshop was initiated to highlight current and future approaches in this field. The only stem cells that have been used clinically for a long time is the hematopoietic stem cell as a source for bone marrow transplantation. Recent findings now indicate that hematopoietic stem cells, under certain conditions, are able to differentiate into endothelial, neural or muscle cells, providing exciting new therapeutic possibilities. They represent a future source for tissue engineering replacing defective cells or tissues and allowing diseased organs to regain their functions. Both reconstitution techniques are paving the way for the development of new therapeutic strategies, giving hope of being able to cure and not only treat patients
Herzchirurgie die Eingriffe am Herzen und an den herznahen Gefässen by Gerhard Ziemer( )

6 editions published between 1991 and 2010 in German and Undetermined and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
