Institutional review board : member handbook by Robert J Amdur( Book )

18 editions published between 2003 and 2022 in English and Japanese and held by 544 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book is a small handbook designed to give Institutional Review Board (IRB) members the information they need to protect the rights and welfare of research subjects in a way that is both effective and efficient. The chapters of this book are short and to the point. Topic-specific chapters list the criteria IRB members should use to determine how to vote on specific kinds of studies and offer practical advice on what IRB members should do before and during full-committee meetings"--
Institutional review board : management and function by Robert J Amdur( Book )

6 editions published between 2002 and 2021 in English and held by 406 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invests over $37 billion per year in support of research to improve human health. All research funded by NIH that involves human subjects is subject to regulatory oversight, requiring institutions to staff and manage Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). IRB members, chairs, and the many associated human subjects protections oversight professionals who support the work of the IRB must navigate complex federal regulations issued by multiple agencies. This book is the industry standard reference work for the research oversight community, providing comprehensive, understandable interpretations of the regulations, clear descriptions of the ethical principles on which the regulations are based, and practical best-practices guidelines for effectively implementing regulatory oversight"--
Functional preservation and quality of life in head and neck radiotherapy by L. W Brady( )

8 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 380 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Focuses on functional treatment outcomes in head and neck cancer patients. This book provides information on site-specific epidemiology and treatment outcome, the impact of different treatment techniques and toxicities on quality of life, and the relationship of toxicity prevention and supportive care to quality of life after treatment
Principles and practice of radiation oncology by Carlos A Perez( )

4 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Designed to provide a better understanding of the natural history of cancer, the physical methods of radiation application, the effects of irradiation on normal tissues, and the most judicious ways in which radiation therapy can be employed in the treatment of cancer patients. This encyclopedic text places greater emphasis on the use of radiation oncology in palliative and supportive care, in addition to therapy. Included in the new edition: chapters on molecular biology and physiology, technology assessment and cost benefit, combined chemotherapy and irradiation in head and neck cancer, breast: stage Tis, pancreas, leukemias (adult and childhood), retinoblastoma, unusual tumors in childhood, and endovascular brachytherapy. This edition also features expanded coverage of new 3-D techniques and IMRT and a greater emphasis on pediatric concerns

Tumor volume as a predictor of survival in T3 glottic carcinoma: A novel approach to patient selection( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Highlights: T3 glottic cancers <2.5cc have an 81% control rate with RT/CRT. T3 glottic cancers ≥2.5cc have 33% higher recurrence rate. 37% T3 glottic cancers treated with RT/CRT had a locoregional recurrence. Total laryngectomy+RT provides better survival for T3 glottic cancers ≥2.5cc. Abstract: Background: The optimal treatment for T3 glottic cancers continues to be debated. Organ preservation has become the standard of care, but not all tumors respond equally. The purpose of this was to investigate the long-term survival outcomes of organ preservation protocols based on tumor volume. Methods: A retrospective review of prospectively collected data from 1966 to 2016 was performed. Patients with T3 vocal cord cancer treated with radiation therapy (RT) at the University of Florida were included. Local control rates as well as survival rates were determined with a Kaplan Meier and Cox regression analysis. Survival was analyzed as a function of tumor volume and an optimal cut point was determined. Results: 107/234 patients were included. 79% received RT and 21% chemo-RT. 5-year local control was 61.5% and 5-year disease specific survival was 79.3%. Tumor volume was a significant predictor of survival (p=0.007). An optimal cut point for tumor volume was 2.5cc. Patients with tumor volumes ≥2.5cc had significantly worse (p<0.05) tumor control rates (100% vs. 70.4%). Conclusion: Tumor volume is a significant predictor of survival outcomes in T3 vocal cord cancers, but will need external validation. Tumors <2.5cc have favorable outcomes. Those with higher volume tumors should be counselled appropriately and be considered for primary surgical management
