Can you trust your doctor?( Visual )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

As the government prepares to offer more funding and independence to GP practices, secret filming of a team of undercover patients to a number of health clinics shows how patients' lives are being put at risk by failing doctors. A series of actors are trained to visit certain GP practices with 'red flag' symptoms that should alert the GPs to the possibility of a serious condition. We also hear from patients whose lives have been cut short by the GP not making a correct early diagnosis. Dame Janet Smith describes how the GMC is too lenient with GPs. The programme uncovers the case of Dr Shippers who, despite being taken to court over the death of a three-year-old boy, is not known by the GMC and continues to practice. Two GPs describe how they became whistle blowers after being employed by a GP that they thought was seriously failing

The Dame Janet Smith review report by Janet Smith( )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In October 2012, the British public was shocked by revelations that Sir James Savile - a well-known and well-loved television personality and charity fundraiser - had in fact been a prolific sex offender. As some of his offences were said to have taken place in connection with his work for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the BBC commissioned an investigation into the allegations and whether the BBC's culture and practices at the time enabled inappropriate sexual conduct to continue unchecked. This report presents the findings and conclusions of that investigation, which was carried out by Dame Janet Smith, a former Court of Appeal Judge. Following the publicity over Savile, allegations of sexual abuse were subsequently made against former radio and television presenter Stuart Hall. The allegations against Hall have also been investigated by this inquiry, but the findings have been published separately in a third volume
