Traces the history of the Jews in Siedlce, where they first settled in the 17th century. During the 19th century more than half of the town's population was Jewish. Pp. 19-23 describe a pogrom in August 1906, after a Russian policeman was killed by a Polish socialist who fled from the town. This was a pretext for a pogrom, during which ca. 100 Jews were killed. Pp. 58-75 deal with the Holocaust period. The Nazis entered the town in September 1939 and burned the synagogue, with some homeless Jewish refugees inside. In 1939 there were ca. 15,000 Jews in Siedlce. The Judenrat was formed in November 1939 and in 1940 the ghetto was established. Describes the life of the Jews there. The ghetto was liquidated in August 1942, and ca. 10,000 Jews were sent to Treblinka. The book includes many illustrations and an index of some of the Jewish inhabitants
