The green building bottom line : the real cost of sustainable building( )

1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As any builder knows, cost estimation and reality are often two very different things. "The Green Building Bottom Line" makes the case for green building by providing the insights and data that demonstrate the true costs and benefits of building green. It's a "why to" and a "how to" that explores everything from the ground up. "The Green Building Bottom Line" puts an entire development team at the table to better understand both the issues encountered and what's behind the perceived price premium for building green. This candid and transparent account explores every aspect of green development on groundbreaking projects, from the nation's first all-retail LEED core and shell project to an innovative multitenanted LEED-Existing Buildings office project, to a mixed-use hotel-retail-condo project in a transitional urban market. The authors focus on such issues as values, culture, life-cycle costs, insurance, financing, coordinating a team, marketing, and negotiating leases
Midnight to the boom : painting in India after independence : from the Peabody Essex Museum's Herwitz Collection by Susan S Bean( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A revolutionary art movement asserted itself in India between the declaration of independence at midnight on August 15, 1947, and the economic boom of the 1990s. This is the first in-depth study of the three generations of artists responsible for critical shifts in the development of India's modernist art.Their achievements and the country's unprecedented boom ushered India's modern and contemporary art into a new era of globalism, a soaring international market, and an explosion in the media and technologies of art. After independence, India's artists faced a particular artistic challenge : how to express the new nation's distinctive character while entering a global discourse focused on modernism's universal premises of experimentation and shared human values. In the absence of a dominant aesthetic, painters could turn where they wished and blend as they liked - from Abstract Expressionism to Tantric spiritualism ; from Rajasthani painting to changes in India's complex politics, religions, classes, and vernacular life. Abundantly illustrated with iconic works of the post-Independence era, Midnight to the Boom tells the story of the exciting developments that occurred in Indian art and culture during this pivotal period in the country's modern history."[Source : revers de la jaquette]

The endeavor for ideology : southern secession by Tricia Sue Verver( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"The Secession Movement of the Southern states threatened the country's core democratic foundation. Independence was the ideal the Southerners adamantly believed they were fighting for in the Civil War. With the Founders highly revered at this time, the South aimed to prove that their cause for war, independence and the overthrow of tyrannical rule, was analogous to that of the colonists during the Revolution of 1776. They were convinced they were fighting for the Second American Revolution. Jefferson Davis, Confederate president, led the effort to support this belief through a plethora of speeches, letters and documents heavily referencing the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Alexander Stephens, Confederate vice-president, and the Commissioners, who were designated to persuade Southern states to secede from the Union, closely followed Davis' lead. However, despite the numerous attempts to depict an honorable justification for war, mirroring that of the Founders, the arguments of Davis, Stephens, and the Commissioners proved to be weak and ultimately unconvincing"--Page ii

Abraham Lincoln and the Founders : how Abraham Lincoln used the American Founding to solve the problems of the Antebellum age by Dustin Dwight Hornbeck( )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"During the antebellum period in the United States Abraham Lincoln came to political prominence. Lincoln consistently turned to the ideas of the Founding generation to solve the political problems of his day. Lincoln cited the Founders in the 1830s when responding to issues of mob rule in Saint Louis and other areas of the nation. In the 1840s he turned to the Founders to solve issues related to alcohol and temperance. In the same decade he used the Founders to criticize the Mexican American war. Most famously, Lincoln cited the Founders in the 1850s and 60s when he argued that they would not have supported the idea of expanding slavery into western territories and states. This paper shows that Lincoln looked to the Founders in all of the decades of his political life. It goes through many of his well-known political speeches and writings and brings to light Lincoln's consistent reliance on Founding principles to solve antebellum political and societal issues"--Page ii

Introduction to Digital Image Processing( Book )

1 edition published in 1984 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Digital image processing is the manipulation of the digital representation of an image. Source of the image can range from a common television video signal to complex imaging systems, such as a scanning electron microscope. Whatever the source of the image, the basic techniques for storing and manipulating data are common to many image processing applications. The actual hardware used in image processing is called a video frame grabber or frame buffer. Video frame grabbers costing under $1000 are now available for many microcomputers including the IBM-PC, APPLE, and S-100 bus systems. Thus, image processing is available to users where previously costs were prohibitive, This document describes the image storage, filtering techniques, and one possible application in the biological sciences. Keywords: Pixels; Convolution techniques; Fourier filtering; and Resolution. (Author)
