Dynamical systems : stability, symbolic dynamics, and chaos by Clark Robinson( Book )

33 editions published between 1994 and 2009 in English and held by 761 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This new text/reference treats dynamical systems from a mathematical perspective, centering on multidimensional systems of real variables. Background material is carefully reviewed as it is used throughout the book, & ideas are introduced through examples. Numerous exercises help the reader understand presented theorems & master the techniques of the proofs & topic under consideration. The book treats the dynamics of both iteration of functions & solutions of ordinary differential equations. Many concepts are first introduced for iteration of functions where the geometry is simpler, but results are interpreted for differential equations. A proof of the existence & continuity of solutions with respect to initial conditions is included. Explicit formulas for the various bifurcations are included, & a treatment of the HTnon map & the Melnikov method is provided. The dynamical systems approach of the book concentrates on properties of the whole system or subsets of the system rather than individual solutions. Even the more local theory which is treated deals with characterizing types of solutions under various hypothesis. Later chapters deal more directly with more global aspects, with one chapter discussing various examples & later chapters giving the global theory

Developments in the vocational education and training systems of Indonesia and Australia by Chris Robinson( Book )

3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 27 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For the past 20-30 years, both Indonesia and Australia have placed considerable emphasis on reforming their systems of technical and vocational education and training (tvet). Indonesia has focused on expanding secondary-level tvet, whereas Australia has emphasized provision of postsecondary-level vocational education and training (vet). Two factors--the emergence of new high-technology and service industries and the aging of the population--are having a profound impact on development of Indonesia's tvet system. An examination of Australia's efforts to develop and reform its vet system revealed the following seven steps that Indonesia might consider as it reforms its tvet system in response to recent economic and social changes: (1) develop a system of continuous and lifelong learning; (2) strengthen advanced and high-level skills training; (3) develop an industry-led tvet sector that includes competency-based training; (4) institute flexible delivery of training and modularization of training courses to make it easier for adults to participate in training; (5) increase focus on training output and outcomes; (6) establish a consistent national training recognition framework; and (7) institute a strong system of public postsecondary training institutes in addition to developing high-quality training providers. (Forty-two tables/figures are included. The report contains 33 references. Appended is summary of the report "Skills toward 2000.") (mn)

New directions in Australia's skill formation : lifelong learning is the key by Chris Robinson( Book )

5 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The unparalleled changes in recent years mean that a continuing focus on the preparation of young people for entry to the work force as the keystone of post-compulsory education and training in Australia is no longer sufficient for two reasons. First, technological change and other changes stemming from globalization of economies are now having a profound impact on the nature of work, the way it is organized, and the skills it requires. Second, the work forces of most countries, including that of Australia, are aging. These developments have implications for changes in Australia's approach to skill formation. The historical focus on the young in post-compulsory education and training policy is inadequate. The more recent trends, both in Australia and overseas, that recognize that these policies now need also to embrace the concept of lifelong learning. Although about 77 percent of the "economically active" population aged 15-64 years undertake some kind of education or training, much of this education or training is unstructured, informal, spasmodic, and minor. Australia has a comparatively high level of investment in education and training, but it is not among the countries with the very highest levels of commitment. Future directions must focus on the development of new learning pathways and an increased national investment in skills and knowledge. (Contains 69 references.) (YLB)
An Introduction to Dynamical Systems : Continuous and Discrete, Second Edition by R. Clark Robinson( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book gives a mathematical treatment of the introduction to qualitative differential equations and discrete dynamical systems. The treatment includes theoretical proofs, methods of calculation, and applications. The two parts of the book, continuous time of differential equations and discrete time of dynamical systems, can be covered independently in one semester each or combined together into a year long course. The material on differential equations introduces the qualitative or geometric approach through a treatment of linear systems in any dimension. There follows chapters where equili
