G.B. Reed groundfish cruise no. 83-5, September 20-October 6, 1983 by S. J Westrheim( Book )

5 editions published in 1984 in English and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During September-October, the R/V G.B. REED completed an echo-sounder survey in Queen Charlotte Sound and a trawl survey in Hecate Strait. The echo-sounder survey delineated "trawlable" and "untrawlable" bottom on Goose Island Bank. The trawl survey investigated the distribution and abundance of juvenile Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus). Hydrographic stations were occupied in Queen Charlotte Sound and Hecate Strait. Surficial sediments were sampled on Horseshoe and Dundas grounds in Hecate Strait. Technological studies on arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias) were completed. Most of Goose Island Bank was deemed "untrawlable". Abundance (or availablity) of juvenile Pacific cod was low. Water temperatures from surface to bottom were abnormal
Pacific cod tagging and stock monitoring off southwest Vancouver Island, February-March 1979 : (Pacific Eagle Groundfish cruises 79-1 and 79-2) by R. P Foucher( Book )

4 editions published between 1979 and 1980 in English and held by 32 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A commercial trawler was chartered for the periods February 14-27, and March 3-15, 1979. Principal purposes of the charters were to tag juvenile Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) and monitor adult Pacific cod abundance on known spawning grounds during the February 1-March 31 trawl closure off southwest Vancouver Island. Only 1,297 juvenile and adult Pacific cod were tagged and released, because of low cod abundance, adverse weather, and high incidence of dogfish (Squalus acanthias) in the trawl catches. Abundance of adult Pacific cod was low. Few schools were located by echo sounder, and 65 trawl catches averaged only 405 kg/hr. Bottom temperatures averaged 7.5°C (23-76 fm) in February, and 8.2°C (24-79 fm) in March
Numbers landed-at-age and associated standardized landing statistics for Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) and important shelf co-habitants from Hecate Strait, Queen Charlotte Sound, and off southwest Vancouver Island, 1956-1982 by R. P Foucher( Book )

1 edition published in 1984 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Landings, effort, and landings per unit effort (LPUE) were calculated for Pacific cod plus lingcod and petrale sole off southwest Vancouver Island, lingcod and rock sole in Queen Charlotte Sound, and rock sole and petrale sole in Hecate Strait. The effort is refined by the Option-2 method of allocating effort in a multi-species fishery and standardized to account for changing vessel efficiency
G.B. Reed groundfish cruise No. 79-4, June 26-July 13, 1979( Book )

1 edition published in 1979 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Pacific cod were caught by on-bottom trawl over a depth range of 10-79 fm in Hecate Strait and Dixon Entrance during early summer, 1979. Mean catch rates per 10-fm depth interval were usually less than 500 kg/hr. Juveniles (mostly age 1+) predominated in the catches. Abnormally warm on-bottom temperatures were thought to have caused the low abundance of adult cod on the grounds trawled
A review of oocyte development in fishes with special reference to Pacific hake (Merluccius productus) by R. P Foucher( Book )

6 editions published between 1977 and 1978 in English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A guide to the ovarian histology of Pacific cod by D. G Bowden( Book )

10 editions published between 1989 and 1990 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The development of the ovary of Pacific cod was examined macroscopically and by microscopic cross section. Oocyte growth and development were recorded by photomicrography for correlation with macroscopic maturity stages of the ovary. Characteristics were described for each maturity stage. A glossary of commonly encountered terms was compiled for use in future investigations of reproductive biology of fishes
Distribution of demersal fishes in Hecate Strait, British Columbia, based on systematic trawl surveys conducted from 1984-1987 by J Fargo( Book )

Groundfish stock assessments for the west coast of Canada in 1985 and recommended yield options for 1986 by A. V Tyler( Book )

4 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Stock assessments and yield options are developed for the Pacific coast ofCanada for the following species: lingcod, Pacific cod, Dover sole, rocksole, English sole, sablefish, Pacific hake, spiny dogfish, walleye pollock, pacific ocean perch, yellowmouth rockfish, rougheye rockfish, silvergreyrockfish, yellowtail rockfish, and canary rockfish. Biologicalconsiderations only, rather than economic factors, are addressed in thisdocument
Length composition of Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) from commercial landings by Canadian trawlers 1974-85 by R. P Foucher( Book )

Estimation of the fecundity of Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) by R. P Foucher( Book )

4 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The determination of fecundity in both the Hecate Strait and west coast of Vancouver Island (LaPerouse area) was carried out as part of an investigation of the reproductive biology of Pacific cod. This project covered 5 spawning seasons (1986-90) and included two widely-separated regions within BC waters for 1988. Comparisons were made by year and geographic region and the relationship to temperature was also investigated
The spawning season of Pacific cod on the west coast of Canada by R. P Foucher( Book )

4 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The spawning season of Pacific cod in British Columbia is primarily January-March, based on 46,106 trawl-caught specimens sampled during 1976-85 at processing plants. Gonad development for both sexes was similar among four areas, but occurred later in the northermost area (north Hecate Strait). Spawning was apparently determinate and essentially complete by May in north Hecate Strait, and by April elsewhere. Considerable variability was found among hauls and among years within months
Canada-U.S. landing statistics and age composition for Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) from trawling grounds off the southwest coast of Vancouver Island, 1956-81 by S. J Westrheim( Book )

Standardized landings statistics for Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus), and important shelf co-habitants from off southwest Vancouver Island, and from Queen Charlotte Sound and Hecate Strait, 1956-85 by R. P Foucher( Book )

4 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Update of 1985 report on landings, effort, and landings per unit effortcalculated for Pacific cod in each area plus lingcod and petrale sole offsouthwest Vancouver Island, lingcod and rock sole in Queen Charlotte Sound, and Dover sole, English sole and rock sole in Hecate Strait. The data wererefined by using the Option-2 method and standardized to correct for changingvessel efficiency

Length-at-age by sex for Pacific cod in British Columbia by R. P Foucher( Book )

5 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Because the stocks of Pacific cod in Canadian waters appear to have only 7 or 8 age classes that can be detected as distinct modes, routine estimations of age composition have been carried out using length-frequency data only, without regard to sex. This paper examines the evidence for any significant difference in mean length at age by sex and evaluates the impact this might have on the age-determination method. Methods used include age determination using skeletal structures; tagging experiments; prominent modes; age determination by length-frequency analysis; and sex ratio
Pacific cod age composition and landing statistics for selected fishing grounds, and quarter years, in Hecate Strait, 1958-80 by R. P Foucher( Book )
