Song exchange in Roman pastoral by Evangelos Karakasis( )

13 editions published between 2010 and 2011 in English and Undetermined and held by 1,271 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Main description: Agonistic or friendly song exchange in idyllic settings forms the very heart of Roman pastoral. By examining in detail the evolution of a wide variety of literary, linguistic, stylistic, and metrical features, the present book focuses on how politics, panegyrics, elegy, heroic, and didactic poetry function as guest genres within the pastoral host genre, starting from Vergil and continuing with Calpurnius Siculus, the Einsiedeln Eclogues and Nemesianus
Terence and the language of Roman comedy by Evangelos Karakasis( Book )

23 editions published between 2001 and 2008 in English and held by 833 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book offers a comprehensive examination of the language of Roman comedy in general and that of Terence in particular. The study explores Terence's use of language to differentiate his characters, and his language in relation to that of the comic fragments of the palliata, the togata and the atellana. Linguistic categories in the Terentian corpus explored include colloquialisms, archaisms, hellenisms and idiolectal features. Terence is shown to give his old men an old-fashioned and verbose tone, while low characters are represented as using colloquial diction. An examination of Eunuchus' language shows it to be closer to the Plautine linguistic tradition."--Jacket

T. Calpurnius Siculus : a pastoral poet in Neronian Rome by Evangelos Karakasis( )

11 editions published between 2016 and 2018 in English and held by 433 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book, a comprehensive survey of T. Calpurnius Siculus' pastoral opus, focuses on the poet's seven eclogues, which are read primarily through the lens of generic evolution and interaction, in an attempt to establish his poetics and his epigonal generic profile. It also contextualizes the generic changes presented by his work into the socio-historical background within which he is operating, namely the political context of Neronian Rome."--
