SPSS for intermediate statistics : use and interpretation by Nancy L Leech( )

41 editions published between 2004 and 2008 in English and German and held by 1,333 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book helps students learn to analyze and interpret research data using SPSS by demonstrating how to compute a variety of statistics covered in intermediate statistics courses. The new edition features SPSS 15.0, but the book can also be used with earlier and probably future versions of SPSS. Each chapter introduces several related statistics and provides instructions on how to run them and interpret the outputs. Each statistic is described in a user-friendly manner. The book reviews research designs and how to assess the assumptions, accuracy, and reliability of data. The authors demonstrate how to: choose an appropriate statistic based on the research design and level of measurement; use SPSS to help answer research questions; and interpret and write about SPSS outputs. The examples use real data that are contained on the book's CD." "This inexpensive paperback is intended as a supplemental text for advanced undergraduate or graduate courses on intermediate/advanced statistics and/or research methods taught in departments of psychology, education, human development, and other applied and health sciences, and/or for researchers in these areas looking to have a handy reference for SPSS."--Jacket

Research methods in applied settings : an integrated approach to design and analysis by Jeffrey A Gliner( )

26 editions published between 2000 and 2017 in English and held by 371 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The authors of this unique text found that while most students can crunch the numbers quite easily and accurately with a calculator or computer, many have trouble seeing the big picture or seeing how research questions and design influence data analysis. As a result, the authors developed a semantically consistent framework that integrates traditional research approaches (experimental, quasi-experimental, comparative) into three basic kinds of research questions (difference, associational, and descriptive), which, in turn, lead to three kinds or groups of statistics with the same names
IBM SPSS for intermediate statistics : use and interpretation by Nancy L Leech( Book )

26 editions published between 2011 and 2015 in English and held by 311 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Designed to help reader analyze and interpretet research data using IBM SPSS, this user-friendly book shows readers how to choose the appropriate statistic based on the design; perform intermediate statistics including multivariate statistics; interpret output; and write about the results. The book reviews research designs and how to assess the accuracy and reliability of data; how to determine whether data meet the assumptions of statistical tests; how to calculate and interpret effect sizes for intermediate statistics, inncluding odds ratios for the logistic analysis; how to compute and interpret post-hoc power; and an overview of basic statistics for those who need a review. Unique chapters on multilevel linear modeling; multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA); assessing reliability of data; multiple imputation; mediation, moderation, and canonical correlation; and factor analysis are provided. SPSS syntax with output is included for those who prefer this format."--- text from back of the book
IBM SPSS for introductory statistics : use and interpretation by George A Morgan( )

9 editions published between 2006 and 2020 in English and held by 56 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"IBM SPSS for Introductory Statistics is designed to help students learn how to analyze and interpret research. In easy-to-understand language, the authors show readers how to choose the appropriate statistic based on the design, and to interpret outputs appropriately. There is such a wide variety of options and statistics in SPSS, that knowing which ones to use and how to interpret the outputs can be difficult. This book assists students with these challenges. Comprehensive and user-friendly, the book prepares readers for each step in the research process: design, entering and checking data, testing assumptions, assessing reliability and validity, computing descriptive and inferential parametric and nonparametric statistics, and writing about results. Dialog windows and SPSS syntax, along with the output, are provided. Several realistic data sets, available online, are used to solve the chapter problems. This new edition includes updated screenshots and instructions for IBM SPSS 25, as well as updated pedagogy, such as callout boxes for each chapter indicating crucial elements of APA style and referencing outputs. IBM SPSS for Introductory Statistics is an invaluable supplemental (or lab text) book for students. In addition, this book and its companion, IBM SPSS for Intermediate Statistics, are useful as guides/reminders to faculty and professionals regarding the specific steps to take to use SPSS and/or how to use and interpret parts of SPSS with which they are unfamiliar."--[Source inconnue]

On Becoming a Pragmatic Researcher The Importance of Combining Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodologies by Anthony J Onwuegbuzie( Book )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The last 100 years have witnessed a fervent debate in the United States about quantitative and qualitative research paradigms. Unfortunately, this has led to a great divide between quantitative and qualitative researchers, who often view themselves in competition with each other. Clearly, this polarization has promoted purists, i.e., researchers who restrict themselves exclusively to either quantitative or qualitative research methods. Mono-method research is the biggest threat to the advancement of the social sciences. As long as researchers stay polarized in research they cannot expect stakeholders who rely on their research findings to take their work seriously. The purpose of this paper is to explore how the debate between quantitative and qualitative is divisive, and thus counterproductive for advancing the social and behavioral science field. This paper advocates that all graduate students learn to use and appreciate both quantitative and qualitative research. In so doing, students will develop into what is termed pragmatic researchers. A Framework for Making Quantitative Educational Research Articles More Reader-Friendly for Practitioners by Anthony J Onwuegbuzie( Book )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how quantitative research articles can be made much more reader-friendly. It illustrates how statistical language and research terminology can be simplified in reports. The paper also demonstrates how quantitative reports could be restructured to make them more reader friendly without sacrificing any important statistical information. It is suggested that by restructuring these reports, practitioners and stakeholders would be in a much better position to read quantitative research articles, the findings of which could be used to improve the quality of education. Not only would the divide between researchers and practitioners be reduced, educational research studies would have a larger impact on schools. (Contains 3 tables and 22 references.) (Author/SLD)
A Call for Greater Use of Nonparametric Statistics by Nancy L Leech( Book )

1 edition published in 2002 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper advocates the use of nonparametric statistics. First, the consequence of using parametric inferential techniques under nonnormality is described. Second, the advantages of using nonparametric techniques are presented. The third purpose is to demonstrate empirically how infrequently nonparametric statistics appear in studies, even those published in the most reputable journals. Fourth, a typology of nonparametric statistics is presented for all univariate general linear model analyses. The nonparametric statistics that are available in the most commonly used statistical software are delineated, and finally, nonparametric effect size indices are outlined. (Contains 1 table and 52 references.) (Author/SLD)

Post-Hoc Power A Concept Whose Time Has Come by Anthony J Onwuegbuzie( Book )

1 edition published in 2002 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper advocates the use of post-hoc power analyses. First, a history and definition of statistical power are provided. Second, reasons for the nonuse of a priori power analyses are presented. Post-hoc power is defined and its usefulness delineated. Fourth, a heuristic example is provided to illustrate how post-hoc power can help rule in/out rival explanations in the presence of statistically nonsignificant findings. This textbook is designed to help the busy radiation oncologist to accurately and confidently delineate tumor volumes for conformal radiation therapy (including IMRT). The book provides an atlas of clinical target volumes (CTVs) for commonly encountered cancers, with each chapter illustrating CTV delineation on a slice-by-slice basis, on planning CT images. Common anatomic variants for each tumor are represented in individual illustrations, with annotations highlighting differences in coverage. The anatomy of each site and patterns of lymphatic drainage are discussed, and their influence on t
