The Cambridge companion to Nozick's Anarchy, state, and utopia( Book )

16 editions published between 2009 and 2011 in English and Spanish and held by 406 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Robert Nozick's Anarchy, State, and Utopia (1974) is recognised as a classic of modern political philosophy. Along with John Rawls's A Theory of Justice (1971), it is widely credited with breathing new life into the discipline in the second half of the twentieth century. This Companion presents a balanced and comprehensive assessment of Nozick's contribution to political philosophy. In engaging and accessible chapters, the contributors analyse Nozick's ideas from a variety of perspectives and explore neglected areas of the work such as his discussion of anarchism and his theory of utopia. Their detailed and illuminating picture of Anarchy, State, and Utopia, its impact and its enduring influence will be invaluable to students and scholars in both political philosophy and political theory"--

The ethics of the market by John Meadowcroft( Book )

15 editions published between 2005 and 2014 in English and Chinese and held by 339 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Ethics of the Market synthesises the work of a number of liberal and libertarian scholars into a positive account of the ethics of the market. John Meadowcroft argues that only a market economy is compatible with the principle of individual self-ownership, central to a free society, that the prosperity achieved by the market enables more needs to be met from a given set of resources than in any comparable economic system, and that if we wish to help other people, of whom we have no direct personal knowledge, the most efficacious way to do so is by responding to the price signals generated by the market. The author addresses objections to this thesis that concern 'social justice', the moral prerequisites of a market economy, the nature of the needs that the market satisfies, the cultural impact of the market and the impact of the market on human well-being."--Publisher's description
