Piero di Cosimo : visions beautiful and strange by Dennis Geronimus( Book )

11 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 506 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this book, Dennis Geronimus overcomes the scarcity of information about the artist's life and works - only one of the nearly sixty known works by Piero is actually signed and dated - and pieces together, from extensive archival research, the most complete and accurate account of Piero's life and career ever written. The book fills gaps in the artist's biography and along the way, sheds light on the social, literary, and artistic traditions that stimulated a demand for his novel work. The author provides intensive analysis of Piero's protean imagery, discusses his various patrons and commissions, and lists his extant, lost, and uncertainly-attributed works."--Jacket
Piero di Cosimo : the poetry of painting in Renaissance Florence by Gretchen A Hirschauer( Book )

8 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 276 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Born in 1462, an auspicious time for hopeful young painters in Renaissance Florence, Piero di Cosimo left the city's artistic landscape forever changed upon his death in 1522. The singular vision of this highly esteemed painter is beautifully presented in this important publication, which accompanies the first-ever retrospective of di Cosimo's astonishing career. A contemporary of luminaries such as Botticelli, Leonardo and Michelangelo, Piero di Cosimo was regarded in his day as a creative spirit of uncommon imagination. As a poet his fantastic inventions rivalled the verses of the shining lights of ancient Greece and Rome, whose myths and allegories he set out to transform in a strange language all his own. As a masterful painter of both sacred and profane subjects he could flit between complex, crowded compositions and scenes of intimate, tranquil lyricism. This groundbreaking publication demonstrates di Cosimo's range through in-depth discussions of individual works that help to substantiate specific interpretations and cases of authorship while also addressing the broader social and religious functions of image-making in the period. This unique publication makes a significant contribution to our understanding of a true Italian master, arguably Renaissance art's most spellbinding storyteller
Piero di Cosimo : painter of faith and fable by Dennis Geronimus( Book )

9 editions published between 2015 and 2019 in English and held by 79 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2015 could rightly be called 'The Year of Piero di Cosimo'. Piero's (1462-1522) critical fortunes have been much revived and his admirers? sense of curiosity piqued by two exhibitions, organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, and the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence. Together, the exhibitions marked and celebrated a pair of firsts. The first-ever major retrospectives devoted entirely to Piero?s artistic career and the first joint-exhibition collaboration between the National Gallery of Art and the Uffizi in the distinguished history of the two institutions. It could be said that the study of Piero di Cosimo belongs no less to the history of imagination than to the history of art. As was true for Giorgio Vasari five centuries ago, Piero?s highly personal visual language remains a moving target for modern scholars. Yet, as surprising and alluringly strange as his pictorial solutions appear, it may be claimed that we have never known or understood as much about Piero as we do today. Freed from the powerful spell of Vasari?s biography-cum-cautionary tale, the Piero that emerges is not solely a conjurer of the uncanny, but a sensitive observer of the natural and manmade worlds, humans and beasts, surfaces and coloristic effects, phenomena material and ephemeral
Leonardo da Vinci : the language of faces by Michael W Kwakkelstein( Book )

4 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) is undoubtedly the best-known artist of all time. He was famous during his own lifetime for his matchless gift for depicting human characters and emotions. He was one of the first artists to become fascinated by the expressiveness of the human face, be it deformed and ugly or beautiful and idealised. This is seen not only in famous paintings like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, but even more so in the dozens of drawings that he made of people's faces. In addition to many of his superb drawings, Leonardo da Vinci - The Language of Faces contains dozens of works by his contemporaries and followers. This dazzling Renaissance art from collections throughout the world has here been brought together in a single book for the first time"--Back cover
Leonardo da Vinci : sprekende gezichten by Leonardo( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in Dutch and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Tentoonstelling: Teylers Museum, Haarlem (05.10.2018 - 06.01.2019)
Piero di Cosimo : restauração = restoration by Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand( Book )

Maniera : Pontormo, Bronzino and Medici Florence by Maniera( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
