Japanese art in detail by John Reeve( Book )

14 editions published between 2005 and 2013 in English and Arabic and held by 568 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Beginning by asking, "What is Japanese art?" this book supplies an answer so broad in its reach, so rich in detail, and so extensively illustrated as to give a reader not just a true picture, but also a fine understanding, of Japanese art. Arranged thematically, the book includes chapters on nature and pleasure, landscape and beauty, all framed by the themes of serenity and turmoil, the two poles of Japanese culture ancient and modern. Highlighting - close up and in color - outstanding examples of design and craft in prints, paintings and screens, metalwork, ceramics, wood, stone, and lacquer, Japanese Art in Detail presents each image alongside enlarged details - details that otherwise might be virtually invisible to the naked eye - thus affording intriguing comparisons between seemingly unrelated pieces. Throughout, John Reeve provides cultural context while pointing out exceptional features." "Though drawn from one extraordinary source - the British Museum - the specific objects pictured here are representative of many others in public and private collections worldwide, and offer a clear idea, both broad and particular, of what constitutes Japanese art. Most of these images, as well as many of those mentioned, are accessible electronically through the British Museum's online database, as are several tours linked to recent exhibits."--Jacket
Sacred : books of the three faiths : Judaism, Christianity, Islam by Karen Armstrong( Book )

11 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 547 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sacred is the lush official catalog of the groundbreaking British Library exhibit bearing the same name, which presents many of the worldʹs most beautiful religious texts for the first time. Illustrations from rare and exquisite examples of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim sacred texts from the Libraryʹs collections, along with unique treasures on loan from other institutions, are showcased and accompanied by essays from three of todayʹs leading religious scholars that explore aspects of the three faiths, including their historical development and contemporary meaning. Stunning full-color illustrations of many previously unreproduced manuscripts from the shared history of the three major religions are paired and brought into compellingly modern context by perceptive writers on religion such as Karen Armstrong, Everett Fox, Frank Peters, and Kathleen Doyle. -- Description from http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca (May 10, 2012)

New museum practice in Asia( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

There is currently an explosion of museum and heritage activity across Asia, especially in China, where audience development and public education have been made a government priority area for museums. In some Asian countries such as Singapore and Korea public participation is already well established. As yet, this is little documented and reviewed for a wider audience in Asia and beyond. This practical handbook examines and critiques these developments and asks how best practice can match the specific needs of diverse Asian cultures and societies. Prioritizing, understanding and developing the relationship between museums and their users in cultural contexts that may, but often do not prioritize the public is a key challenge for Asian museum professionals at all levels, and for foreign partners of Asian museums also. Bringing together a range of regional examples of innovative practice and new initiatives, written by current practitioners, the book covers shared themes and challenges in museums, galleries, outreach/community projects and heritage sites across Asia
