[Maurice Crane talks about the Michigan State University Voice Library] by Maurice Crane( Recording )

1 edition published in 1987 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Dr. Maurice A. Crane of the Vincent Voice Library at Michigan State University describes the history behind the technology of voice recording beginning with Thomas Edison's binary system in Edison Cylinders. Dr. Crane explains how difficult it can be to determine whether or not a president or famous individual actually recorded their voice because they often hired actors to portray them in recordings. Dr. Crane emphasizes the importance of sound to the understanding of a piece like a Shakespearean play. Dr. Crane profiles the founder of the Vincent Voice Library, G. Robert Vincent, and the history of his work as a recorder of voices. Crane says that his favorite speakers are always the ones he acquired last. Includes an excerpt of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" as read by Thomas Edison as well as several speakers introducing themselves
