Media Agoras: Democracy, Diversity, and Communication is a collection of essays presenting some of the most up-to-date perspectives on the study of the role media play in the construction of a more inclusive and respectful society. From theoretical debates on the role played by media in fostering participatory practices in the public sphere to more empirically based analyses of the media policy, production, content, and reception in relation to democratic possibilities and diversity, this book presents a critical overview of such crucial debates in contemporary European societies
The future of journalism : risks, threats and opportunities by Future of Journalism Conference( Book )

2 editions published between 2019 and 2020 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume draws together research presented at the 2015 Future of Journalism conference at Cardiff University, UK. The theme, 'Risks, Threats and Opportunities, ' highlighted five areas of particular concern for discussion and debate. The first of these areas, 'Journalism and Social Media', explores how journalism and the role of the journalist are being redefined in the digital age of social networking and big data, and how the influence of media like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, and Instagram affects the gathering, reporting or consumption of news? 'Journalists at Risk' assesses the key issues surrounding journalists' safety and their right to report, as news organizations and their sources are increasingly targeted in war, conflict or crisis situations. The third area, 'Journalism Under Surveillance', asks what freedom of the press means in a post-Snowden climate
Remote, elitist, or non-existent? : the European public sphere in the debates of British political elites by Iñaki Garcia-Blanco( )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper looks at how British political elites discuss the European public sphere and citizensʼ participation within it. Drawing on 41 in-depth interviews with political elites - including politicians at national and European levels, journalists, political activists, and think-tank professionals - the paper explores intervieweesʼ understandings of the European public sphere, and their perceptions about its vitality. Our research reveals a great deal of scepticism about the idea of a European public sphere, in part rooted in conventional British Euro-sceptic approaches, and in part fostered by a perception of the remoteness and democratic deficit of the European Union
