The relationship between informing parents of both the rationale and the reported benefits of using invented spelling and the parents' attitudes towards the use of invented spelling by Nancy J Kolodziej( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The purpose of this study was to determine what relationship exists between informing parents of both the rationale and the reported benefits of using invented spelling and the parents' attitudes towards the use of invented spelling. Seventy-seven subjects from a Pennsylvania elementary school were randomly assigned to either the control group (n = 42) or the experimental group (n = 35). Methodology was based on vignette research design that is typically employed to obtain data of subjects' beliefs and attitudes. The vignettes in this study were the Expositions, one of which simply contained a brief definition of invented spelling and the other which also included information regarding the rationale and benefits of a young child's use of invented spelling. Demographic and attitudinal data were gathered through the use of the Questionnaire and the Parents' Prior Knowledge of Invented Spelling: Baseline Data instruments
