Karina Chechik : Architetture di luce by Karina Chechik( Book )

1 edition published in 2011 in Multiple languages and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"After several years of research, travel, photographic gathering and spiritual pilgrimage, Karina Chechik presents 'Architectures of Light, ' an exhibit based on various architectural settings with religious and cultural references, which combine different artistic currents, beliefs and temporalities. The exhibition adresses the existential questions the artist has tried to answer over the years regarding the human essence, the search for the divine, and the spiritual elevation ... The origins of this new series can be traced to the beginning of Chechik's artistic career, when she first started to explore the idea of light and spirituality, which is essential in her work ... the artist has been inspired by her search for the meaning and the impact of mysticism in contemporary societies."--Francine Birbragher, page 25
Luz Forero : ARgenT : los colores del dinero( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in Spanish and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Colombian-French artist Luz Forero presents for the first time in Bogotá a selection of works from the series ARgenT in The colors of money at LA Galería. The exhibition, curated by art historian Francine Birbragher PhD, will be open to the public from March 6th to April 19th, 2014, and is made possible through the support of the Alliance Française. Forero focuses on two basic concepts: money and repetition. Each work begins with the gathering of coins, banknotes, or facsimiles that become the basis for the painting, sculpture, or installation. Once Forero decides the medium, she painstakingly glues each one of the elements either in an ordered or in a haphazard way. In the end, the collection of coins, banknotes, and objects form a unit made out of the accumulation of the different items. It is a work that invites us to reflect not only on the value of money but on by what accumulation means in general. Luz Forero is interested in the psychological impact that the accumulation of money - as the origin of all accumulations - has on people: the recognition of one’s own identity facing a mirror made out of money; money as the origin of the greatest calamities, incoherence, and tribulations we have inflicted upon ourselves; the root of the bloodiest wars; the fuel for the greatest ignominies, insensitivities, and injustices, such as slavery, ethnic cleansing, and some types of production-related relationships; money as a means for subsistence, as the meaning of a productive life, the source of happiness and fulfilled dreams. Playing with the fact that there are “two sides” in a coin which represent two opposite domains, Forero uses a tremendous dose of irony revealing them and bringing to light their incoherence, thus confronting us with the question of who we are and to what degree (and how) does money shape us. Through the works in the exhibition The colors of money, Luz Forero invites viewers to wonder how does it feel to see oneself reflected on coins or on the mirrors that function as backgrounds for several of the paintings and installations, creating parallel relationships between money/violence and the conflicts and feelings they generate: success, happiness, power, deep individual and social feelings, dreams, disillusionment, disappointment, greed, need, fear, values and corruption, and, above all, the businesses that generate the most money: arms sales, war, drug trafficking, religions, prostitution, gambling, speculation, politics, and art itself."--LA Galería
