The microfilm copy of the diary is supplemented by a 1947 letter about and translation of the Minnesota portion of the diary (June 10-20, 1866), in which Crommelin describes his arrival in St. Paul and his visit to various parts of the state and discusses the administration, construction, and financing of the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad; towns and lands along the line; land and crop values; stage lines and other transportation methods; and immigration to the state
