Frontiers in complex dynamics : in celebration of John Milnor's 80th birthday by Araceli Bonifant( )

17 editions published between 2013 and 2017 in English and held by 715 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

John Milnor, best known for his work in differential topology, K-theory, and dynamical systems, is one of only three mathematicians to have won the Fields medal, the Abel prize, and the Wolf prize, and is the only one to have received all three of the Leroy P. Steele prizes. In honor of his 80th birthday, this work gathers together surveys and papers inspired by Milnor's work, from distinguished experts examining not only holomorphic dynamics in one and several variables, but also differential geometry, entropy theory, and combinatorial group theory
Dynamical systems (1953-2000) by John W Milnor( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 55 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book, the sixth in the series "Collected Papers of John Milnor", contains all of Milnor's work on Real and Complex Dynamics from 1953 to 1999, plus one paper from 2000. These papers provide important and fundamental material in real and complex dynamical systems. Many of them have become classics in the field. Several questions addressed in them continue to be important in current research. Having them together in the same volume gives readers a taste of all the great mathematics developed by the author in the different areas of dynamics. In some cases, there have been minor corrections or clarifications, as well as references to more recent work which answers questions raised by the author. John Milnor's papers are accompanied by introductions that put them in perspective with respect to the current state of the field. There is also an index to facilitate searching the book for specific topics." --Publisher description
Dynamical systems (1984-2012) by John W Milnor( Book )

4 editions published between 1997 and 2014 in English and held by 54 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is the seventh in the series Collected Papers of John Milnor. Together with the preceding Volume VI, it contains all of Milnor's papers in dynamics, through the year 2012. Most of the papers are in holomorphic dynamics; however, there are two in real dynamics and one on cellular automata. Two of the papers are published here for the first time. The papers in this volume provide important and fundamental material in real and complex dynamical systems. Many have become classics, and have inspired further research in the field. Some of the questions addressed here continue to be important in current research. In some cases, there have been minor corrections or clarifications, as well as references to more recent work which answers questions raised by the author. The volume also includes an index to facilitate searching the book for specific topics

Antipode preserving cubic maps: the Fjord theorem( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: This note will study a family of cubic rational maps which carry antipodal points of the Riemann sphere to antipodal points. It focuses particularly on the fjords, which are part of the central hyperbolic component but stretch out to infinity. These serve to decompose the parameter plane into subsets, each of which is characterized by a corresponding rotation number
