Focusing on one of the most important figures in Serbian and Yugoslav literary history, Danilo Kiš, the present study intends to analyze a very productive reception of the author’s work in this territory. For that matter, we have encountered numerous studies, monographs and articles that have successfully guided this analytical process. In addition, we have also focused on the issue of the ethical and esthetical identity of the writer that left great many poetic writings and texts. The aim of this research is to offer a collection of different perspectives cast upon the works of Danilo Kiš, set out a specific tendency in which the critics have been studying different cultural aspects from a certain horizon of expectation and analyze the role of the writer in this process. In order to achieve such goals, we have included the novels and the collections of stories as the main corpus of this research, due to the fact that these works form one of the most important points of the overall reception process. In order to provide the readers with the appropriate context of the writings, we have introduced a historical-literary study. This study provided us with the geographical, time, institutional and figurative knots. We have seen how different receptions of Kiš’s novels, the conditions of their appearance and the events that have occurred starting from the second half of the XX century have provided us with a great corpus for the interpretation of a specific culture, moment and space. Consequently, a methodology that could reflect the complexity of the perspectives of Kiš’s receptions was required. Jauss’s concept of «horizons of expectations» was one of the pillars of this analysis. Therefore, we have followed the opinions of the German theorist that different societies carry out their interpretations of the literary texts starting from numerous lines of vital habits. For that reason, understanding the way in which - in a specific time and a specific place - any work is being read, not only does it inform us on the mention work, but also on the society itself
