Sole ed. of Leoniceno's defense of his translation of Galen's Commentaries on Hippocrates' Aphorisms (included in Libros Galeni. Ferrara 1509), in which Leoniceno vigorously maintains that despite its weaknesses, his translation represents a substantial advance over the earlier versions by Jacopo Berengario da Carpi, Ugo Benzi, Demetrios Chalkokondyles and others. He claims that he held long discussions with his close friend Theodore Gaza on the merits of one reading over another, and that any error found in his translation is the responsibility of printer Giovanni Mazzocchi, or a faulty ms. at his disposal. Leoniceno also explains some of his editorial policies, shedding considerable light on Renaissance techniques for translating medical texts. The present v. is the only book to bear the name of Tommaso Giunta, son of Lucantonio
