Vajda Júlia : 1913-1982 by Júlia Vajda( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Despite the fact that she was rarely given the opportunity to exhibit her works in her lifetime, Júlia Vajda become one of the major figures of 20th century Hungarian art. She was a tough woman. At times she found herself at a disadvantage because of her Jewish origin, at other times because of her opposition to the government, or because her art was deemed too modern. Her oeuvre spans two important periods of Hungarian modernism, the "Western" figurative-surrealistic world of the European School (1945-1948) and the experimental, abstract, conceptual and geometrical aspirations of the art of the sixties and seventies. As a consequence, her oeuvre is striking for its variety and style."
