"Denn wenn irgend etwas recht eigentlich dazu geschickt ist, in einem jungen Kopfe aufzuräumen, seine Welt- und Menschenkenntniß auf eine leichte und angenehme Weise zu erweitern, den Hang zu romanhaften Träumereien, zu welchen so viele andere Modebücher ihn einladen, zu schwächen, einen heilsamen Ekel gegen das faselnde, schöngeisterische, empfindelnde, Leib und Seele nach und nach entnervende Geschwätz der besagten Modebücher, und hingegen einen wünschenswürdigen Geschmack an ernsthaften und nützlichen Unterhaltungen einzuflößen, so sind es gewiß solche Reisebeschreibungen, bei deren Verfertigung man, sowol in Betracht der Sachen, als auch des Vortrages, dieses jugendliche Alter einzig und allein unverrückt in Gesicht gehabt hätte."
