Empezaba así la fascinante aventura que nos relata esta obra, Los ecos de la batalla. Acompañando a su amigo Spender vivió una especie de thriller policíaco, tratando de encontrar el paradero del buque soviético Komsomol, misteriosamente desaparecido, junto con toda su tripulación, en algún lugar de las costas españolas. Junto con el mítico doctor canadiense Norman Bethune transportó sangre embotellada por los hospitales y los frentes de la Guerra Civil española. En una de esas misiones, fue testigo de la huida de los refugiados en la carretera Málaga-Almería. Buscando a sus amigos enrolados como voluntarios en las Brigadas Internacionales, llegó al Madrid sitiado y heroico de 1937. Y una noche, en el Valle del Jarama, bajo el silbido de las balas, escucharía el estremecedor relato de la batalla que allí se estaba librando. Los ecos de la batalla es, pues, el testimonio de un hombre que nunca quiso ser protagonista de la historia pero que siempre pensó que debía ayudar a salvar el futuro de unos hombres y mujeres perdidos en la carretera de una guerra fratricida y cruel
