Aspects of quantum theory by
P. A. M Dirac(
Book
)
22 editions published between 1972 and 2010 in English and held by 581 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The twelve articles in this volume discuss various aspects of quantum mechanics which owe their origin to the work fo P.A.M. Dirac. Each of the distinguished contributors reviews Dirac's work and discusses its development in some detail. Since Dirac's work ranged widely, the resulting volume constitutes a valable survey of the state of quantum mechanics. A small part of the book contains personal reminiscences of Dirac in Cambridge and of his early visits to the U.S.A. and gives a historical account of the development of quantum mechanics during the decade 1924-1933, termed the "golden age of theoretical physics."

Eugene Paul Wigner(
Book
)
38 editions published between 1931 and 1977 in German and English and held by 302 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Philosophical reflections and syntheses by
Eugene Paul Wigner(
)
11 editions published between 1995 and 1997 in English and German and held by 120 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Among the founding fathers of modern quantum physics few have contributed to our basic understanding of its concepts as much as E.P. Wigner. His articles on the epistemology of quantum mechanics and the measurement problem, and the basic role of symmetries were of fundamental importance for all subsequent work. He was also the first to discuss the concept of consciousness from the point of view of modern physics. G.G. Emch edited most of those papers and wrote a very helpful introduction into Wigner's contributions to Natural Philosophy. The book should be a gem for all those interested in the history and philosophy of science. From a review by Silvan S. Schweber in Physics Today, October 1996: "All of the essays in Volume VI are at the level of the curious nonexpert who possesses a minimal command of the quantum mechanical formalism. They are rigorous, lucid and challenging."

The collected works of Eugene Paul Wigner by
Eugene Paul Wigner(
Book
)
22 editions published between 1993 and 1997 in English and German and held by 117 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Eugene Wigner is one of the few giants of 20th-century physics. His early work helped to shape quantum mechanics, he laid the foundations of nuclear physics and nuclear engineering, and he contributed significantly to solid-state physics. His philosophical and political writings are widely known. All his works will be reprinted in Eugene Paul Wigner's Collected Workstogether with descriptive annotations by outstanding scientists. The present volume begins with a short biographical sketch followed by Wigner's papers on group theory, an extremely powerful tool he created for theoretical quantum physics. They are presented in two parts. The first, annotated by B. Judd, covers applications to atomic and molecular spectra, term structure, time reversal and spin. In the second, G. Mackey introduces to the reader the mathematical papers, many of which are outstanding contributions to the theory of unitary representations of groups, including the famous paper on the Lorentz group
