Psychology of adolescence by Karl C Garrison( Book )

"The aim of this edition is twofold. First, the book is designed to be of value both to adolescents and to those entrusted with the care and guidance of adolescents. This book may afford to teachers and parents a more appreciative view of adolescents and a fuller recognition of the importance of their transition from childhood to adulthood. The second aim of this book is to introduce the student to basic experimental studies, and thus lay the foundation for a critical appreciation of new studies that are constantly appearing. I have drawn heavily from recent scientific studies and current source materials. Thus youth activities in this country, surveys of various aspects of the life of adolescents, clinical studies of adolescents, and representative research studies from various sources are reviewed. The third edition has added new material relative to the needs of adolescents, the development of attitudes, heterosexuality, and youth problems today and tomorrow"--Preface. "The opening chapters are devoted to a consideration of the two central problems of educational psychology, that part of the science of psychology which is concerned with the growth and development of the individual, especially as this is conditioned by the school. The two major problems of educational psychology are concerned with individual differences and learning. In this text the authors have thought best to eliminate many topics which, although they are of interest and of value to the teacher, are generally treated in an introductory course in psychology"--Preface. The self concepts of elementary school children in relation to their academic achievement, intelligence, interests and manifest anxiety by Joseph C Bledsoe( Book )

7 editions published in 1962 in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Relationships were studied of elementary school children's self-concepts to academic achievement, intelligence, and manifest anxiety. Subjects (270) were selected from a group of approximately 600 fourth- and sixth-grade pupils who were administered the following group tests--(1) self-concept scale, (2) child self-description scale, (3) children's manifest anxiety scale, and (4) an inventory titled, what I like to do. Intelligence measures, from the california achievement tests and the california short form test of mental ability, were obtained from cumulative records. Cards from the michigan picture test were administered shortly after the group tests. Resulting data were analyzed. Findings were ambiguous, but the authors conclude that the self-concept of the student has an important relationship to his success. (Jk)

Psychology in industry by J. Stanley Gray( Book )

1 edition published in 1952 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book is about the activities of workmen in industrial situations. It is a psychology of workmen. It is concerned with those factors which affect workmen and the efficiency of their production efforts. Some of these factors are not usually considered to be within the legitimate field of industrial psychology. The criteria which determined their inclusion in this book were the degree to which they affected men at work and the information available about them. This book is an introduction to industrial psychology but it is based on an elementary acquaintance with general psychology and industrial situations"--Preface.
