Controlled diffusion processes by N. V Krylov( Book )

6 editions published between 1979 and 2009 in English and held by 269 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book deals with the optimal control of solutions of fully observable It-type stochastic differential equations. The validity of the Bellman differential equation for payoff functions is proved and rules for optimal control strategies are developed. Topics include optimal stopping; one dimensional controlled diffusion; the Lp-estimates of stochastic integral distributions; the existence theorem for stochastic equations; the It formula for functions; and the Bellman principle, equation, and normalized equation

Advances in probability theory : limit theorems & related problems by A. A Borovkov( Book )

5 editions published in 1984 in English and held by 250 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Probability theory is an actively developing branch of mathematics. It has applications in many areas of science and technology and forms the basis of mathematical statistics. This self-contained, comprehensive book tackles the principal problems and advanced questions of probability theory and random processes in 22 chapters, presented in a logical order but also suitable for dipping into. They include both classical and more recent results, such as large deviations theory, factorization identities, information theory, stochastic recursive sequences. The book is further distinguished by the inclusion of clear and illustrative proofs of the fundamental results that comprise many methodological improvements aimed at simplifying the arguments and making them more transparent. The importance of the Russian school in the development of probability theory has long been recognized. This book is the translation of the fifth edition of the highly successful and esteemed Russian textbook. This edition includes a number of new sections, such as a new chapter on large deviation theory for random walks, which are of both theoretical and applied interest. The frequent references to Russian literature throughout this work lend a fresh dimension and makes it an invaluable source of reference for Western researchers and advanced students in probability related subjects. Probability Theory will be of interest to both advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying probability theory and its applications. It can serve as a basis for several one-semester courses on probability theory and random processes as well as self-study. About the Author Professor Alexandr Borovkov lives and works in the Novosibirsk Academy Town in Russia and is affiliated with both the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Novosibirsk State University. He is one of the most prominent Russian specialists in probability theory and mathematical statistics. Alexandr Borovkov authored and co-authored more than 200 research papers and ten research monographs and advanced level university textbooks. His contributions to mathematics and its applications are widely recognized, which included election to the Russian Academy of Sciences and several prestigious awards for his research and textbooks

Aeroelasticity : the continuum theory by A. V Balakrishnan( Book )

6 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The author's approach is one of continuum models of the aerodynamic flow interacting with a flexible structure whose behavior is governed by partial differential equations. Both linear and nonlinear models are considered although much of the book is concerned with the former while keeping the latter clearly in view. A complete chapter is also devoted to nonlinear theory. The author has provided new insights into the classical inviscid aerodynamics and raises novel and interesting questions on fundamental issues that have too often been neglected or forgotten in the development of the early history of the subject. The author contrasts his approach with discrete models for the unsteady aerodynamic flow and the finite element model for the structure. Much of the aeroelasticity has been developed with applications formerly in℗¡mind because of its enormous consequences for the safety of aircraft. Aeroelastic instabilities such as divergence and flutter and aeroelastic responses to gusts can pose a significant hazard to the aircraft and impact its performance. Yet, it is now recognized that there are many other physical phenomena that have similar characteristics ranging from flows around flexible tall buildings and long span bridges, alternate energy sources such as electric power generation by smart structures to flows internal to the human body. ℗¡From the foreword: ℗¡"For the theorist and applied mathematician who wishes an introduction to this fascinating subject as well as for the experienced aeroelastician who is open to new challenges and a fresh viewpoint, this book and its author have much to offer the reader." Earl Dowell, Duke University, USA
Stochastic differential systems : filtering and control : proceedings of the IFIP-WG 7/1 working conference, Vilnius, Lithuania, USSR, Aug. 28-Sept. 2, 1978 by B Grigelionis( )

2 editions published in 1981 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Fifth IFIP Working Conference on Stochastic Differential Systems continues the traditional line of previous conferences in Kyoto (1976), Vilnjus (1978), Visegrad (1980), and Marseille-Luminy (1984) and focuses on topics of present research in the field of stochastic differential systems. Particular emphasis is laid on infinite-dimensional stochastic problems and random fields, especially on stochastic partial differential equations. The volume includes contributions to the study of stochastic equations and diffusion and their approximation, large deviations and stability of perturbed systems, stochastic control theory and filtering. There are also contributions to the study of some special problems in martingale theory and stochastic calculus. This volume is of special interest to researchers in stochastic processes, random fields, and control theory
