Baldessari's artwork has been featured in more than 200 solo exhibitions and more than 900 group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe John Baldessari, conceptual artist and teacher, has lived and worked in California all his life. Considered a pioneer of postmodern ideas in the 1970s, he came to prominence with his early text paintings and moved on to photographic images paired with text. His projects include artist books, videos, films, billboards, and public works. He has maintained his interest in the relationship of words and imagery, of delighting in the absurd, and pointing out the irony in contemporary art theory for more than 35 years. Baldessari has been active as a printmaker since 1970; John Baldessari, A Catalogue Raisonne of Prints and Multiples 1971 -2007 marks the first comprehensive accounting of this tremendous body of work and the influence this artist has had on the international art world. Sharon Coplan Hurowitz is an art adviser and independent curator. She is the founder of a consulting firm specializing in contemporary prints and multiples, and was a specialist at Sotheby's and Christie's. She lives in New York with her husband and two children. Wendy Weitman, until 2007, was curator in the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, where she had worked since 1980. In addition to curating a number of important exhibitions, Ms. Weitman has taught and lectured widely on prints in the U.S., Europe, and Japan

Subject, Mullican, element, sign, frame, world by Matt Mullican( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Over the last four decades, Matt Mullican has created a complex body of work concerned with systems of knowledge, meaning, language, and signification. His work takes form as drawing, collage, video, sculpture, performance, and installation, but Mullican is perhaps best known for his performances: these take place under hypnosis, allowing the artist to treat his own psyche as yet another medium. The drawings Mullican makes in this state - as an alter ego he refers to as "that person" - recall Surrealist experiments with automatic writing. In recent years, interest has surged in Mullican's work as younger artists and curators have rediscovered him

John Baldessari : pure beauty by John Baldessari( Book )

12 editions published in 2009 in English and German and held by 70 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A major figure in contemporary art, John Baldessari is widely considered one of the most influential artists to emerge since the mid-1960s. From his early text-and-image paintings to his more recent photo collages and installations, Baldessari has continued to make art that addresses the social impact of mass culture, often playfully through strategies of appropriation and deconstruction. Baldessari's lifelong interest in language, written and visual, and the interaction between the two, raises questions about the nature of communication and perception. More than 400 illustrations are presented in full colour in this monograph published in conjunction with a major exhibition organised by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Tate Modern in London. Eleven essays by critics, curators, art historians, and an artist and former student of Baldessari's round out this volume. Few contemporary artists have achieved the range and relevance of Baldessari's oeuvre, which is finally given its due in this elegant retrospective book

Presented without commentary, this film reveals the thinking behind the work of John Baldessari over the course of his career, and provides clues to the understanding of the artist's paintings, photographic work and books. What emerges is a portrait of a thoughtful, quietly rebellious artist who has influenced a large number of younger artists over the last twenty years, and who has clearly followed his own path in the exploration of the territory which he embarked upon in the late 60's
