The revolt against the church by
Léon Cristiani(
Book
)
6 editions published in 1962 in English and held by 498 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The period covered in this volume lasts from the pontificate of Nicholas V to Gregory XV, that is, from 1447 until 1623. It was a time of ferment which witnessed not only the Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation, when whole countries in Europe were lost to the Church, but also the Catholic reform movement which culminated in the Council of Trent. The story revolves round great names, like Savonarola, Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Robert Bellarmine, etc.; both for the importance of the events and movements described and the eminence or notoriety of many of the characters appearing in it, this volume forms an unusually exciting contribution to this series

Heresies and heretics by
Léon Cristiani(

What is a heretic? What were the heresies in the long and varied history of Christianity? The author answers these questions by describing the heresies that developed from the divisions, breaches of unity and divergencies of opinion about the meaning of Christianity's message. Heresies arise from the diversity of minds, from personality, from temperament and ultimately from the fact of human freedom

Why we believe by
Léon Cristiani(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1959 in English and Undetermined and held by 448 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Defines both traditional and modern apologetics as "the science which has as its purpose to demonstrate the divine nature of Christianity and whose aim is the bring to life faith and hope." Considering the two main complementary aspects of apologetics, the negative and historical aspect which consists in rebutting hostile attacks and the positive modern aspect which emphasizes the proofs of the divinity of Christianity, the author underlines the attitude of the Church, which maintains that proofs be presented for all that which is, of its nature, provable, but holds that, at the same time, it is quite in the nature of things that much of that which "concerns God should lie beyond the scope of our minds, and for man's reason may be shrouded in obscurity."

Nicolas Corte(
Book
)
17 editions published between 1956 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 98 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Has the Church any teaching on the subject of Satan? Is the Christian, careful to believe everything that the Church believes and teaches in God's name, obliged to believe in the existence of the Devil? Or is he allowed to consign the whole subject to the indeterminate domain of tradition, legend or Christian folklore? This survey of the Church's teaching on the Devil and the role of the Devil in history and in the literature of later times has been written with a view to facing the problem boldly and providing a reasonable and sound conclusion about it
