This is particularly apparent with respect to deans of professionals schools. This volume of New Directions for Higher Education begins to fill the void by focusing on the demanding leadership roles assumed by deans of social work, law, engineering, nursing, and divinity. Although the case illustrations draw primarily on the experiences of deans of social work, the contributors to this volume confirm that their deanship experiences are similar to those found in other professional schools

In 1970 the State University System of Florida and the Division of Community Colleges inititated a statewide Social Work Education Planning Project. This project is designed to determine the current and projected manpower needs for professional and paraprofessional social work personnel and to assess the extent to which the institutions of higher education in the state are preparing graduates to meet these needs. This monograph is designed to highlight the need for further evaluation of field instruction within the area of social work education. The first section involves a discussion of manpower utilization, including a discussion of the new roles that are being assumed by human service workers from the high school level through graduate level training. The second section provides a program description of the project on delinquency prevention as well as some projections about the future role of social work in the field of corrections. In the third section evaluation is made of the differential staffing pattern utilized in the pilot and in particular focuses on the issues of team work, leadership, and the assumption of new roles in human service delivery. Curriculum building for the continuum in social welfare education by Michael J Austin( Book )

4 editions published in 1972 in English and held by 210 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During 1970 Florida's University and Community College Systems held a workshop to discuss the idea of a curriculum continuum that would begin at the community college level and extend through the upper levels of graduate work. It was acknowledged that any continuum involving more than 1 level of education should include flexible opportunities for admission, graduation, and readmission as long as appropriate. It was decided that some form of social welfare education would be a likely candidate for such a continuum, and the Social Work Education Project was developed. Social welfare is a vital area to growing societal demands and those responsible for the curriculum design recognize their interdependence. This document presents an overview of the problem as a whole, offers illustrations of the Florida innovations that are underway in such a continuum, and suggest directions that might be taken to realize this objective.
