"The Working-Class Movement in America (1888), is a classic study of American labor in the 1880s and was a bestseller among labor circles of the time. This text provides a snapshot of the U.S. labor movement and working class at a time when the United States was becoming the world's leading manufacturing nation. Blending firsthand observations and interviews with a wealth of appropriate statistics and reports from the Burean of Labor Statistics in various states, Marx and Aveling describe conditions in numerous workplaces and sectors of the labor force; there is even a Marxist analysis of the American cowboy!"--Jacket
Capital; a critique of political economy by Karl Marx( Book )

19 editions published between 1912 and 1977 in English and held by 592 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

From the Publisher: Das Kapital, Karl Marx's masterwork, is the book that above all others formed the twentieth century. From Kapital sprung the economic and political systems that in our time dominated half the earth and for half a century kept the world on the brink of war. Even today, one billion Chinese remain in the power of the Marxist system. Yet this important and powerful work has been passed over by many readers frustrated by Marx's difficult style and his preoccupation with nineteenth-century events of little relevance to today's reader. Now Serge Levitsky presents a new revised version of this masterpiece, carefully retranslated for the modern reader and abridged to emphasize the political and philosophical core of Marx's work, while trimming away much that is now unimportant. Here then is a fresh and highly readable version of a work whose ideas have influenced the lives of nearly every person alive today
Capital; a critical analysis of capitalist production by Karl Marx( Book )

73 editions published between 1886 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 512 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Few writers have had a more demonstrable impact on the development of the modern world than has Karl Marx (1818-1883). Of central importance then and later was his book Das Kapital, or, as it is known to English readers, simply Capital. Volume One of Capital was published in Paris in 1867. This was the only volume published during Marx's lifetime and the only to have come directly from his pen. Volume Two, published in 1884, was based on notes Marx left, but written by his friend and collaborator, Friedrich Engels (1820-1895). Marx's critique of the capitalist system is rife with big themes: his theory of 'surplus value', his discussion of the exploitation of the working class, and his forecast of class conflict on a grand scale

From the Publisher: Capital, one of Marx's major and most influential works, was the product of thirty years close study of the capitalist mode of production in England, the most advanced industrial society of his day. This new translation of Volume One, the only volume to be completed and edited by Marx himself, avoids some of the mistakes that have marred earlier versions and seeks to do justice to the literary qualities of the work. The introduction is by Ernest Mandel, author of Late Capitalism, one of the only comprehensive attempts to develop the theoretical legacy of Capital
