Investigation of the operating characteristics of the Iowa sediment concentration measuring system by Frederick A Locher ( Book )
5 editions published between 1974 and 1976 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report presents results of an investigation conducted to evaluate the capabilities and limitations of the Iowa Sediment Concentration Measuring System (ISCMS). The manner in which the ISCMS responds to a group of particles and to a single particle is presented. Specifically, problems with non-uniformities in the transducer field and problems created by inadequate frequency response are discussed. The results of tests conducted in an oscillatory flow facility are evaluated and the use of the ISCMS for measuring the instantaneous suspended sediment concentration is reviewed. Recommendations for improvement of the instrument are also suggested

Old gold model, type 4-2H hot-wire anemometer and type 2 mean-product computer by John Glover ( Book )
7 editions published between 1967 and 1972 in English and Undetermined and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A two-channel constant-temperature hot-wire anemometer and mean-product computer are described. The anemometer section of the instrument generates linear signals proportional to the instantaneous components of the velocity. The signals are processed by the mean-product computer which is a complete analog multiplier for computing the product of two signals. Included with the mean-product computer is an integrating analog-to-frequency converter which when connected to an electronic counter gives a digital display of the mean product. Operating procedures, instrument calibration, and circuit descriptions are presented to aid in the application of hot-wire anemometry for measuring flow velocities. (Author)

An electro-optical system for measurement of mean and statistical properties of sediment suspensions by John Glover ( Book )
4 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A new electro-optical system has been developed for in situ measurement of suspended sediment concentration in alluvial channel flows, estuaries, and shoaling waves. The transducer for the system consists of a gallium arsenide diode as a light source and a silicon planer diode as a light sensor. The source light detected by the sensor is modulated by the suspended- sediment in the gap between the source and sensor. The amplifier for the sensor output has been combined on one chassis with signal analyzing circuitry, which includes an analog-to-frequency converter and multiplier circuits. The resulting system is capable of measuring suspended sediment concentrations down to 100 ppm, and can compute the mean concentration, the mean square of the concentration fluctuations, and the correlation between sediment concentration and another signal supplied to the system. Exploratory experiments were undertaken in a recirculating laboratory flume and a laboratory wave basin to evaluate the practical usefulness of the system

A bi-directional counter for operation with model old gold hot-wire anemometer systems by John Glover ( Book )
4 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The bi-directional counter described in this report was designed specifically for operation with a bi-polar analog-to-frequency converter which has two independent pulse trains. The counter will count in either direction, corss zero and change the sign, and reverse the count direction automatically. Seven-segment readouts are driven by memory circuits which are updated at the end of each gate-time interval. The time-base oscillator is a 100-Hz crystal oscillator, and its output is divided by factors of ten to give gate times of 1,10, and 100 seconds. The frequencies of the input pulse trains are divided by 10 or 100 for gate times of 10 to 100 seconds respectively. Thus, the four-unit displayed is constant for all three gate times. (Author)
