Il piccolo villaggio della valle si trasforma in un microcosmo in cui Piccolo Albero impara a riconoscere le persone buone da quelle disoneste, e ad apprezzare la sincerità dei gesti in contrasto con la falsità delle parole. L'idillio viene spezzato dagli assistenti sociali che impongono al bambino di lasciare i nonni e frequentare un collegio a mericano.
