Complex analysis; an introduction to the theory of analytic functions of one complex variable by
Lars V Ahlfors(
Book
)
113 editions published between 1953 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 2,451 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A standard source of information of functions of one complex variable, this text has retained its wide popularity in this field by being consistently rigorous without becoming needlessly concerned with advanced or overspecialized material. Difficult points have been clarified, the book has been reviewed for accuracy, and notations and terminology have been modernized. Chapter 2, Complex Functions, features a brief section on the change of length and area under conformal mapping, and much of Chapter 8, GlobalAnalytic Functions, has been rewritten in order to introduce readers to the terminology of germs and sheaves while still emphasizing that classical concepts are the backbone of the theory. Chapter 4, Complex Integration, now includes a new and simpler proof of the general form of Cauchy's theorem. There is a short section on the Riemann zeta function, showing the use of residues in a more exciting situation than in the computation of definite integrals

Lectures on quasiconformal mappings by
Lars V Ahlfors(
Book
)
54 editions published between 1960 and 2017 in 4 languages and held by 800 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Lars Ahlfors's Lectures on Quasiconformal Mappings, based on a course he gave at Harvard University in the spring term of 1964, was first published in 1966 and was soon recognized as the classic it was shortly destined to become. These lectures develop the theory of quasiconformal mappings from scratch, give a selfcontained treatment of the Beltrami equation, and cover the basic properties of Teichmüller spaces, including the Bers embedding and the Teichmüller curve. It is remarkable how Ahlfors goes straight to the heart of the matter, presenting major results with a minimum set of prerequisites. Many graduate students and other mathematicians have learned the foundations of the theories of quasiconformal mappings and Teichmüller spaces from these lecture notes. This edition includes three new chapters. The first, written by Earle and Kra, describes further developments in the theory of Teichmüller spaces and provides many references to the vast literature on Teichmüller spaces and quasiconformal mappings. The second, by Shishikura, describes how quasiconformal mappings have revitalized the subject of complex dynamics. The third, by Hubbard, illustrates the role of these mappings in Thurston's theory of hyperbolic structures on 3manifolds. Together, these three new chapters exhibit the continuing vitality and importance of the theory of quasiconformal mappings

Conformal invariants: topics in geometric function theory by

Most conformal invariants can be described in terms of extremal properties. Conformal invariants and extremal problems are therefore intimately linked and form together the central theme of this classic book which is primarily intended for students with approximately a year's background in complex variable theory. The book emphasizes the geometric approach as well as classical and semiclassical results which Lars Ahlfors felt every student of complex analysis should know before embarking on independent research. At the time of the book's original appearance, much of this material had never ap

Riemann surfaces by
Lars V Ahlfors(
)
7 editions published between 1960 and 2016 in English and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The theory of Riemann surfaces has a geometric and an analytic part. The former deals with the axiomatic definition of a Riemann surface, methods of construction, topological equivalence, and conformal mappings of one Riemann surface on another. The analytic part is concerned with the existence and properties of functions that have a special character connected with the conformal structure, for instance: subharmonic, harmonic, and analytic functions.Originally published in 1960.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest printondemand technology to again make available previously outofprint books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These paperback editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905
