29 editions published between 1947 and 1970 in English and held by 1,724 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As part of a continuing series, this fourth volume of "Illustrators of Children's Books" concentrates on the decade from 1967 to 1976. Four essays in Part One of the book discuss the state of the illustrator's art ("Book Illustration"), European picture books in the decade ("a View from the Island"), the Japanese picture book ("Where the Old Meets the New"), and the illustrated book as opposed to picture books ("In the Beginning Was the Word"). Part Two provides biographies of illustrators active during the period, while Part Three contains the bibliographies of those illustrators and of authors of children's books. Appendixes provide bibliographical notes for the essays in Part One, a list of the artists represented by illustrations, an index to this volume, a cumulative index to the biographies and bibliographies of all four volumes, and acknowledgments for copyrighted materials.
