Climate change and Canada's national park system : a screening level assessment = Le changement climatique et le réseau des parcs nationaux du Canada : une évaluation préliminaire by Parks Canada( Book )

9 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 173 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report uses climate change models to form a screening level assessment of the impacts of climate change in Canada's national parks and reserves. Seasonal climate change scenarios based on four doubled-carbon-dioxide general circulation model experiments, were assembled for each national park, and implications for abiotic features, ecosystems, individual species, and visitor use of each park were then examined using national park resource inventories and existing climatological & climate change studies. The report begins with an introduction on climate change studies, an overview of the methods used to construct the climate change scenarios, and a summary of how the climate at the parks is projected to change over the next century. This is followed by climate change impact reports for each park, arranged by region. Based on this analysis, the final section discusses management & policy implications and future research needs

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada (NHSC) commemorates the history of Canada"s West Coast Fishing Industry. The site is nationally significant because of its association with the fishing industry, from the 1870s to the modern era; its location in Steveston, historically the most important fishing village on the West Coast; and the Cannery buildings and extant resources which reflect the industry"s development. Collaboratively written with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, and shaped through stakeholder and public involvement, this management plan amends and replaces the management plan tabled in 2003. This plan contains a five-year implementation strategy with targets and actions, and is the primary reference document for decision-making and accountability for the site.--Document
