La presidenta by Lois Gould( Book )

19 editions published between 1981 and 1989 in 4 languages and held by 827 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

La Presidenta is set in the lush landscape of an imaginary Latin country-a territory of eroticism and suspense-where political corruption lives with the devout cult of the virgin as though they were lovers. With brilliance and authority, Lois Gould uses the legend of Eva, Juan, and Isael Peron to set her imagination on a bold new course, revealing the ways in which illusion is made to create legend, and history comes to need legend more than truth. Agreat leader is about to return with a new young bride, ending his long political exile. He is coming home to the power he lost with the death of his first wife, La Senora

Following the initial remarks of each panelist, the audience, consisting exclusively of women involved in the writing world, enters into dialogue with the panel on the implications of the term "woman writer" and whether there is in fact a distinctly female sensibility which in writing can be best expressed by a female author. The panel consists of writers Cynthia Ozick, Lois Gould, Jill Robinson, Muriel Rukeyser, and Ellen Moers and was moderated by Elizabeth Janeway. Additional statements from the floor were made by Erica Jong, Jane Lazarre, Vivian Gornick, and Nona Balakian.
