Energy transformations in living matter; a survey by Hans Adolf Krebs( Book )

10 editions published in 1957 in English and German and held by 307 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This survey was written at the invitation of the Editors of the "Ergebnisse der Physiologie". Its aim is to present the more recent progress in the know ledge of biological energy transformations. Since it was intended for a review journal, the reader was taken to be familiar with the fundamentals of current biochemistry, as described in the standard textbooks. It was not the object to compile an extensive collection of facts. The survey is limited to aspects of wider interest, and the main emphasis has been on the general unifying principles which emerge from the great mass of detailed ob servations. The article is reprinted in the hope that it may be useful in this form to advanced students and research workers in biochemistry and related subjects. H.A. KREBS H.L. Biological cycles by Ronald W Estabrook( Book )

4 editions published in 1981 in English and Undetermined and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Current Topics in Cellular Regulation, Volume 18: Biological Cycles covers topics on the events of molecular biology, cellular communication, and the merging of cell structure to biochemical function. The book discusses the ornithin-urea cycle; the cycles of glutathione metabolism and transport; and the role of multienzymatic proteins in mammalian pyrimidine biosynthesis. The text also describes the significance of interconvertible enzyme cycles in cellular regulation; regulation of mammalian pyruvate dehydrogenase complex by a phosphorylation-dephosphorylation cycle; replenishment of citric
Hans Krebs by Frederic Lawrence Holmes( Book )

in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This comprehensive volume completes Frederic Holmes's notable and detailed biography of Hans Krebs, from the investigator's early development through the major phase of his groundbreaking investigation, which lay the foundations upon which the modern structure of intermediary metabolism is built. With access to Krebs's research notebooks as well as to Krebs himself through more than five years of personal interviews, the author provides an insightful analysis of Hans Krebs and of the scientific process as a whole. The first volume, published in 1991, covered Krebs's formative years in Germany, his work with Otto Warburg, and his discovery of the urea cycle in 1932. This second volume reconstructs the investigative pathway and the professional and personal life of Hans Krebs, from the time of his arrival in England in 1933 until 1937, when he made the discovery for which he is best known-the formulation of the citric acid cycle. Holmes portrays Krebs's activity at the intimate level of daily interactions of thought and action, from which the characteristic patterns of scientific creativity can best be seen.; Holmes's fascinating portrait of Krebs integrates the great scientist's investigative pathways with his personal life. The result is an illuminating analysis of both man and scientist that will be of interest to biochemists and historians of science
