Major General Arthur St. Clair (1734-1818) was born at Thurso, Scotland and died in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. His mother was Margaret Balfour St. Clair. He married Phoebe Bayard, daughter of Belthazar Bayard and Mary Bowdoin. He first served in the British Army and came to the Colonies under Amherst in 1759. After his marriage, they moved to Bedford, Pennsylvania where he was employed as a surveyor. He also served as an officer in the American Revolution. They were the parents of six children. Their descendant lines are traced
