Changing rhythms of American family life by Suzanne M Bianchi( Book )

12 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 1,700 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Using time-diary data from surveys of American parents over the last four decades, Changing Rhythms of American Family Life finds that, despite increased workloads outside of the home, mothers today spend at least as much time interacting with their children as mothers did decades ago - and perhaps even more. Unexpectedly, the authors find the increase in mothers' time at work has not resulted in an overall decline in sleep or leisure time. Rather, mothers have made time for both work and family by sacrificing time spent doing housework and by increased "multi-tasking.""--Jacket

Chapter 2 contains a historical summary of public opinion on various domestic and international oriented political issues. Chapters 3 through 12 review and reproduce attitude scales dealing with: liberalism-conservatism, democratic principles, domestic government policies, racial and ethnic attitudes, international affairs, hostility-related national attitudes, community based political attitudes, political information and participation, and attitudes toward the political process. Chapter 13 contains individual questions from the Survey Research Center's election studies. The tables of contents of two appendices are reproduced in Chapter 13 and 14: Measures of Occupational Attitudes and Occupational Characteristics, and Measures of Social Psychological Attitudes, so 001 167. Time for life : the surprising ways Americans use their time by John P Robinson( Book )

15 editions published between 1997 and 2000 in English and held by 1,056 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Is it possible that Americans have more free time than they did thirty years ago? While few may believe it, research based on careful records of how we actually spend our time shows that Americans have almost five hours more free time per week than in the 1960s. Here time-use experts John P. Robinson and Geoffrey Godbey explain this surprising trend and how it has come about. They also discuss why so few Americans apparently appreciate how their free time has increased or how that new free time is being used." "Their unique source of time-use information, the Americans' Use of Time Project, is the only such detailed historical data archive in the United States. Every ten years the project has been asking thousands of Americans to report their daily activities on an hour-by-hour basis in time diaries."--Jacket

Measures of occupational attitudes and occupational characteristics : (Appendix A to Measures of political attitudes) by John P Robinson( Book )

17 editions published between 1969 and 1974 in English and held by 485 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this monograph is to provide researchers with a systematic review and evaluation of the major empirical measures relevant to the study of variables related to a person's occupation. Particular attention is focused on measurement scales, that is, series of attitude items that attempt to measure the same attitude content. The introductory chapter discusses the background of the project and the major criteria used in evaluating the 77 scales. Chapters 2-4 deal with reviews of research on job satisfaction: Historical perspective, cross-sectional studies, and predictability. Other chapters deal with the scales themselves: General Job Satisfaction Scales; Job Satisfaction for Particular Occupations; Satisfaction with Specific Job Features; Factors from some Multidimensional Analyses of Job Satisfaction; Concepts Related to Job Satisfaction; Occupational Values; Leadership Styles; Other Work-Relevant Attitudes; Vocational Interest Measures; Occupational Status Measures; Status Inconsistency: Some Conceptual and Methodological Considerations; Occupational Status; and Social Mobility. Chapter 18 summarizes the evidence of the previous four under the general heading of occupational similarity. Appendix b is ed 053 031; Measures of Political Attitudes is ed 053 032. (Author/DJB)
