11 editions published between 1955 and 1976 in 3 languages and held by 649 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In this book is assembled for the first time a representative collection of contemporary documents, dating from 43 B.C. to A.D. 37 -- inscriptions, coins, papyri, and a few official pieces incorporated in literary texts -- many of which have hitherto been buried in periodicals not readily accessible. It includes the 'Res Gestae Divi Augusti'; a synopsis of the consular 'fasti' and of the calendars of the two reigns; an almost complete collection of laws, 'senatusconsulta', and imperial edicts and letters; and a wide selection of other documents to illustrate such topics as the imperial family, the imperial cult, the senatorial and equestrian orders, the army and the navy, and the cities of the empire. The collection will be indispensable to all students of the early principate, and particularly useful in university." [Book jacket]

Tiberius by
Robin Seager(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1972 in Undetermined and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Robin Seager traces the life of Tiberius from his birth in Rome in 42 BC during the death throes of the Republic, through his military career and reign as Emperor, to his death in AD 37. Tiberius' complex character is the key to understanding his reign. Challenging the common ancient view of Tiberius as a consummate hypocrite, Seager portrays him instead as a man whose virtues and beliefs were corrupted by power, who lost his grasp of reality as his fears of conspiracy and assassination spiralled out of control, and who finally resorted to ruling by terror." "The second edition of this biography contains a substantial afterword, reconsidering various questions and discussing important new evidence that has come to light since the book was first published"--Jacket

Tiberius Cæsar by

3 editions published between 1928 and 2001 in Undetermined and English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The great conundrum of his character and the political significance of his long reign, which solidified the imperial government of Rome, render the life of Tiberius Caesar (42 B.C.-37 A.D.) - second emperor of Rome and successor of Augustus - a subject of perennial interest. From the mass of available evidence two men can be constructed, both equally credible: one, an upright, gruff soldier-statesman, austere, just, capable; the other, a corrupt, murderous tyrant with gargantuan and depraved appetites."--BOOK JACKET
